PRS Talk Good enough numbers?

Hey all, just started reloading for PRS and wanted to get some opinions on whether they are good enough.
So here’s my numbers

6.5 creed 24” Krieger
2700 FPS average
SD 8
Hi 2714
Low 2691
ES 23

The ES is what kinda worries me. But I’m not sure if that’s “good enough” or not. Shoots same hole or at least touching at 100 yards.

I’m using the once fired hornady brass I have with the 140 eldm projectile. H4350 federal match primers. Shoots super accurate though.
Previously I had been shooting factory hornady 140 match ammo.

I'd say you are doing pretty good. Those are decent numbers for a 20 shot string. You can chase them further down, but how far down the rabbit hole do your wan't to go? You say you just started reloading so these numbers may come down as you perfect your technique and your loads get more consistent. I'm sure your numbers are better than most people are getting out of box ammo that they shoot at matches.

I’m not obsessed with getting 1 SD and .00001” groups or anything like that. I just wanted to know that my ammo is good enough for matches so when I miss it’s me and not my ammo.
I'm fine with my current SD but I wouldn't mind lowering the ES to a little. Is there something that I can do that directly affects that?

Just consistency, honestly i'd need to know your entire process and equipment to try and give some hints about getting it lower. Id totally shoot that ammo in a match. Did you chrono the Hornady box stuff, what were those numbers like?

Yes I did, SD of 15 ES of 45 at about 2730ish. It seemed like a really good lot luckily I had bought 500 rounds of it.

Accuracy and consistency matter, sd's do not. I shoot for 1.25" vertical for 10 shots at 300 yds. I've had good luck with that. Fx120i has really helped drop my sd but like i said, i think accuracy is #1

In PRS you will miss because your position isn't stable or your wind call is wrong. That's 90% of it in my opinion. Your load and accuracy are more than adequate.

Well, there are alot of people shooting that ammo in matches, your numbers are about twice as good and your reloads are shooting well, don't stress about it. Get out and practice.

You've got nothing to worry about. The only time that might hurt you is if the MD is throwing out sub-MOA targets at extended distances - and those are few and far between. It's not a fringe case I'd be worried about, especially since wind reading is far more likely to screw you up in those situations.

If you decide you want to pursue a reduction in ES I would recommend changing to Lapua brass. I am shooting a nearly identical set up to yours at an almost identical velocity. My ES was worse than yours and changing from the Hornady to Lapua brass seems to have solved the problem. I am sub 10 ES on the Lapua brass using CCI 450 primers.

I had weight sorted the Hornady in 1 grain incremennts and next turned. I did not weight sort the Lapua. I only neck turned it. The Lapua necks were thicker which allowed me to turn a little thicker which may have helped.

I got some virgin Peterson brass from a buddy. Is Lapua a big step up from Peterson ?

I'm running Hornady Brass and was getting SDs in that 4-6 range for 10 shot groups. Now that I'll be on my second firing it'll be interesting to see what happens with it.
