I'm putting together a Rem 700 in 308 Win for F/TR. I plan on getting a 20 MOA one piece base and some good rings. Does steel or aluminum make a big difference, other than weight?

Are the extended bases needed for most scopes? I plan on getting a Sightron 8-32x56 in the future for this rifle. What do you guys reccomend?

Next, I may send out the bolt to get a new Target or tac knob installed, while waiting for my barrel. I like the extra length of the knob but some look pretty big and bulky, though I have never tried one. What's all of your opinions?

Thanks,
Junki

Rings- Nightforce, Seekins, Badger

Rail- Nightforce, Badger, EGW

Aluminum is perfect for a .308. No need for steel.

I have a Badger knob on one of my riles. It's too big and I don't like it for F Class. Get something smaller. It interferes with my trigger finger at times. I have large hands.

Pretty much any rings and bases will work... but what I'm currently using (for the last 4-5 years) is either Farrell steel or more recently aluminum EGW bases, and Burris Signature Zee rings. I don't particularly like the overall construction of these rings, but the non-marring, self-aligning shims they use are sometimes necessary.

Well I ordered a EGW HD base, and a pr of TSR rings. I have a few other scopes I will use until I get the Sightron or perhaps a used Nightforce I am looking at.

I am actually looking at a used Savage FTR rifle, scope, rings, base, bipod, on another sight, but he is way to high on his price. We'll see what happens, I'm in no hurry.

Thanks
