When weight, compactness, and quality are paramount over price, you can't beat the smallest Gitzo Travellers'. Check-out my Gitzo GT1550T Traveller in <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">farmbo</span></span>'s <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"Tripod for ground level/standing positions?"</span></span> thread. I now use the 1550T Traveller with a <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">RRS BH-30 LR</span></span> ball head, and with the Ball Head's Plate turned lengthwise the OAL of the tripod and head combo is only 14.33" (364mm), and the combined weight with MTB Grip Foam added to the legs is less than 3 pounds.

take a look at slik sprint mini II. I have one and really like it. light and compact. I didn't care for the head on it so I replaced it with a vanguard ph-21.
PRS has tripods and I believe the medium height uses the slik sprint mini II tripod with different heads. They also make a shorter one with about a 8" folded length.

I've got one and sprung for the extra rods. It's damn near bomb proof, very simple to setup and use, and very adaptable.
I upgraded to a manfrotto, all I can say is wow. That and the quick adjust grip, amazing kit. added some quick release heads to my spotter, DSLR and just snap on, snap off.
