GoPro just announced the Hero3 release. I don't get caught up in a lot of new releases, but I am stoked about this one! 4k resolution from an action camera. 2.7k @ 30fps means I should be able to get some really sweet POV stuff and more freedom in post. Low light ability is supposed improved and it's smaller/lighter!

Depends, the only one that does 1440p is the Hero3 Black which is $399.

FWIW, the Hero3 comes in 3 models, white($199), silver($299), and black($399).

There are differences between all 3.

Yes. However for me, the Black model is the only one that really offers enough of an advantage over my Hero2. The "White" model which is actually lower specs than the current Hero2 (and cheaper). The only real advantage with that one is the built in WiFi and the smaller form factor.

So if you don't have a Hero2, I could see buying one of the other models. If you do have a Hero2, then the "Black Edition" is the only way to go.

I'm looking to purchase one of these small video recorders. Was leaning towards the Contour version, because it appears to mount to helmets, rifles, bows etc... better. Is the GoPro version a better choice?

I just picked up a Contour+2 and see how I'm going to need both. If the contour had the same image quality that the gopro had I think it would be a no-brainer.

4k resolution really is going to be pretty nice. I knew holding off on another H2 was going to be a good idea.

Built in WiFi will be a huge plus also with the app they have, and the display appears to feature a few more settings
