Got a little carried away with my 10/22

I got this 10/22 a few years ago for $200. Figured I would add a little something here and there. Never really totaled up how much I was actually spending on it until today haha. Just been piecing it together as I found good deals on stuff. Finally got a chance to take it out to 100 yards last night. First time I've really seen how much a difference ammo can make. The groups between the 36gr Federal hollow point and the Federal Automatch, even though they're both cheap ammo, made me realize that I might want to try out some of the "pricier" 22lr. Also thinking about swapping the scope out to a 6-24 Diamondback Tactical, as they're only $300 with vet discounts. Other than the bolt and receiver, there's not much else to do, even then, there's probably always SOMETHING more I could do to it :LOL: Looking forward to getting used to this little rifle while I'm waiting for the silly CA DOJ to fix my record so I can pick up a Savage 6.5CM.

For now:
-stainless factory receiver/polished bolt
-Hornet Custom Stinger stock (some people hate it.. I really like it)
-Volquartsen TG2000 trigger group (got this for really cheap from SlideFire before they shut down)
-Green Mountain 18" bull barrel
-Primary Arms Silver Series 4-14x44 FFP mildot scope
-Amazon special bipod

I form 1'd my factory one... It has a cheap folder on it and a 4" Beyer bbl. What a POS. NOT putting money into that and I hate fucking Ruger but love the 10/22. So I put together a Kidd rifle using an integrally suppressed barrel (yeah, 12" of that barrel is all monocore baffling). Only sound is the action and this rifle is on par fun-wise as the M2HB. The 1-4x Vortex PST scope is perfect for me, I don't like a lot of magnification. The Titan stock is the tits, for the price, fit and feel, it's hard to go wrong with it. And Kidd makes the damn 10/22 what it should have been in the first place. Only Ruger part on this rifle is the magazine. I cheaped out on the last $100 and went with a single stage trigger but I'm actually happy with it, a good crisp and light 1 stage is sometimes better IMO. I guess all in all there's about $2000 in this rifle but to be honest, I didn't keep track when i was building it and I had to wait a year for that barrel.

Rifle is still good for about 1MOA I guess, could be better? As nice as it is, it's mostly a toy for plinking cans when I don't wanna go to a range! So it's never actually been on a measured range shooting paper. Snapping your fingers is louder than this rifle with standard or HV ammo. FWIW, the Kidd action is just naturally quieter than the Ruger one I found out.

Checked it.. although it is a decent price, I really don't care much for the reticle. Will likely plan on getting the Diamondback tactical for now. Thank you though!

I honestly thought I'd keep it under $600... guess that didn't work out too well. Now I want to change the barrel to something lighter and swap the scope out. Don't really mind going over my budget. Just never realized how quickly the parts would add up :LOL:

$600 isn't bad. A Proof Research 10/22 carbon fiber barrel is that much alone. Just want until you get your hands on a Kidd 2-stage trigger. I bought one to try and now have a few at roughly $300 each. In my opinion, the Kidd triggers are worth the expense.

One of the 10/22s I've setup lately is a lite build. While it's not quite as accurate as some of the other 10/22s I own, it's good enough for it's intended usage. I went with the Whistle Pig 16.5-inch non-fluted bull barrel. The biggest thing I did to reduce weight was in the scope and mount. They are a hair under 13 ounces combined.

When you start adding in the cost of optics, it's easy to double the price of a 10/22. A couple of mine are running the Athlon Midas TAC 6-24×50 with the APRS3 reticle. For example, a Midas TAC with Burris XTR Signature rings cost about the same as the Ruger 10/22 Competition they are currently mounted on.

How do you like your Ruger 10/22 competition? Does the competition receiver mount in any 10/22 stock? I've left mine pretty stock. I'm considering sending out the BX trigger to Brimstone, but for now I'm letting my fiance learn how to shoot the grungy 2.5lb trigger, before I put her behind a 1lb trigger. Need her to work on her fundamentals.

The barrel shoots great from my testing.

I've not shot enough rounds through it to form a good opinion. The last time I was able to go to the range, it started raining before I got the scope sighted in correctly. I've not tried it in any other stock as I'm pretty satisfied with the stock that it came with other than I need to mount a picatinny rail. The only other thing I'll likely change is ordering another Kidd 2-stage trigger for it.

That's what I was getting at. As far as I've been able to find Ruger has never made a stainless receiver and thought you might have found something that's very rare.

I have a 10/22 that the only parts of it that are Ruger are the receiver and bolt. I turned down a Green Mountain barrel to get rid of some weight and polished it and then polished the receiver and trigger group. It looks like stainless even if it's just aluminum. I stuck a silver Mueller scope on it so I have a shiny 10/22 that is pretty accurate, thanks to the GM barrel.

I need to get the dremel out and polish the receiver up. The barrel is definitely the heaviest part of this little rifle. Would like to get it reduced eventually. I know it's 4140 steel, but have you had any corrosion issues after the machine work and polishing?

Not at all and it has been several years since I did this. I use Johnson's paste wax on it and the aluminum parts. Everything is just as bright and shiny as the day I finished with it.
