Just got back from annual duck/goose trip to Saskatchewan, CA...got a banded Mallard...shot limit of greater Canadian geese in each morning (3 morning hunts, 4 hunters, 8 birds each)...blew my barrel off of my Benelli Super Black Eagle I, that happened on the 4th hunt in the afternoon...was shooting 3 1/2" shells...barrel blew off after shooting, it broke away from the barrel ring...last picture is obviously an elk...only $4,500 to shoot that bad boy!!! count me out on that one, LOL

Re: Got Jewelry!!

He did say it was Cali right? I'd go with tax as they are the test ground for the libs. Gotta pay for all them IOU's.

Re: Got Jewelry!!

yea spoke to benelli they will take it back, guy on the trip was with someone last year who had a benelli like mine that blew the barrel ring off as well, said benelli sent him a new one...that one had about 2500 rounds mainly all 3 1/2"...so fingers crossed one thing that sucks is that one was one of the 4th shell trick guns (some of you know what that is)...and yes CANADA, not CALI...yea the elks can run anywhere from 2500 - 4500 to shoot...they are raised...stick some numbnuts in a stand or let him feel like he stalks it in a penned in area and bam...a mighty hunter wannabe is born, LOL...price is high because people will pay it...guy that was in our group a few years ago went and shot one...farmer was getting rid of his elk herd that he had raised...bull was a 6x6 huge...he wanted $850 for it...outfitter that i no longer use (for this and a few other reasons) he knew about it...orchestrated the hunt...while we were there so this was no great feat by any means...and charged him $2,500...paid the farmer the $850...remaining 1650 he took half and split the rest with the 4 guys that were guides...

all in all i still go every year, this was year 5 for me...might try for bear since they only do them in the afternoons...can shoot geese in the morning then try for bear in the afternoon...would be kinda cool to do once...

so it wasnt any sort of tax...just they know what they can get

Re: Got Jewelry!!

4500 is paying outfitter...its rape...bringing it back is all on you too...i dont know what the guy from here had to pay, he had his mounted up there...then it had to be crated and shipped, that is by far not a small animal to do a full head mount and then ship it...no telling what that cost

Re: Got Jewelry!!

I saw the pic of the elk, and thought it might be your post. I'd like to see some more pics as well. Beautiful Elk, but for $4500 the jewelry would have to be included.

I didn't know you broke that benelli. Look at it this way, It could have been worse and broke the first day. Hope they fix it up for you though.

A Bear hunt would be sweet!

Re: Got Jewelry!!

^^^ Game and Fish only band a few duck and geese each year... Not sure how many are banded in the US and Canada but it is a small percentage so shooting a banded one is kinda rare.

I have never shot a banded bird but I believe you can call in and see the location the bird was banded, age, etc.... ???
