Hunting & Fishing Got me a Kitty!

Re: Got me a Kitty!

Beautiful cat. Congratulations. So what bullet were you using? I agree with the other posts about wishing to see a quicker and cleaner kill. That's hunting I guess. I shot a coyote yesterday that took a few minutes to die. Not pretty. I always strive for clean shots, but sometimes things don't go as planned.

I'd rather see one cat suffer a bit than the 60+ Deer or Elk this cat would kill a year. </div></div>

Amen Brother !

Re: Got me a Kitty!

Very nice cat!!

I've been hunting a large cat for the past 3 days with my .54 cal blackpowder rifle. Tracked it over 3 miles today in rugged snow-covered terrain to where it had jumped a fence into the safey of the State Park. Damn!

A .54 cal muzzleloader, you ask? Affirmative. You don't wanna miss. You won't have time to reload.

"One shot, one kill" has new meaning for me now.

(Yeah, I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. I still carry a .357 mag in my vest pocket, in addition to a tomahawk and K-Bar)

Pics hopefully forthcoming....(or, not)

Re: Got me a Kitty!

Congratulations but just not for me. Sorry i may be going against the grain here. I will shoot a hog, deer, elk etc. But a cat like that is a majestic animal. Also the laughing and hooting and hollering while the animal was suffering was inappropriate IMHO.

I dont know how much time is passed between the videos, but there were two shots fired while the car was on the tree. A clean shot thru the heart/lungs and it would have not been able to run away multiple times, and taken so long to die to the point of being shot execution style.

Re: Got me a Kitty!

good hounds men right there! all dogs tied and out of the way and they did not let them go after the shot
good job guys as far as the 223 is more than enough had a cat take 4 44mag 240 jhp behind the shoulder same thing happened they are tuff

Re: Got me a Kitty!

great cat!! i cannot wait to get one myself.

I hate to say this, but i need to.
i agree that obviously that cat was dead after the first shot, BUT you should prob pull that last video with the final shot in it just because anti's love those for their collections.

i hope i'm not way out of line posting this, but i think that would be the best thing to do.

again, congrats!!!! i'm a little jealous.

Re: Got me a Kitty!

Great trophy, but even better video. Too bad you weren't hunting with your camera only, as that cat should be hunting Elk today. Call me a pussy, but if I had the chance to bag one of them, I would probably warning shot it, and treasure the video and pics.

Re: Got me a Kitty!

Man what a great cat. I would like to get one like that someday. Actually, one has been seen in the area where I deer hunt in NW Wyoming, but I haven't laid eyes on it or even seen a track yet.

Re: Got me a Kitty!

You know, I agree with swift, quick, efficient kills on game too, but I wonder how the last deer or elk died with this guy? Probably eaten partially while still alive.

Try some Berger bullets in that 223 and I bet he wont go as long next time. Like little exploding grenades when they hit.

Re: Got me a Kitty!

Nice lion!!! I used to raise lion hounds and train lion hounds in MT and the best way to kill a lion is a 22LR or 22 Mag, one shot through the heart or lungs and they don't freak out they bleed out super fast and fall out dead, a lion skull will stop a 22LR, in fact I have never had one penetrate.
The biggest messes I have seen were lions shot with 44mags, I watched one fall out of the tree dead as a knob, shot through both shoulder, hit the ground and run 230yrd before my hounds slowed him down. Once a cats adrenaline gets up, your not going to DTR them like a deer, they don't just roll over and give up. Soft lead wad cutter or hollow points for 357 or 44's work real well also!!
Nice sounding hounds too, there's nothing like following lions in the mountains, listening to the hounds, you will never see some things any other way and you will never have harder hunts if you do it old school!!

Re: Got me a Kitty!

I keep coming back to your post to look at the pictures. Those pictures are awesome.

I have been on a couple of "hunts of a lifetime" type hunts. But now I am pretty sure I missed at least one in North America.

My dream hunt is an African lion hunt. And to see Victoria Falls while I am in Africa. When I was a kid I was fascinated by Kitty on "The Adams Family".

I am pretty close to saving the money to go on this hunt. But I am not sure if I will be physically able to go. So post a few more pictures of this hunt, because it is awesome in my opinion.

Personally I am not qualified to make a recommendation or to critique your cartridge choice because I have no experience. However I truly believe that one of G_ds creatures like that would surely be tough to put down. I have watched a lot of videos of Leopard hunts in Africa, and have seen them shot with some pretty big cartridges. And almost all of them take a good run, and take time to expire. So who am I to judge??

The dogs and the handler seemed to be very experienced. I sincerely doubt that he would have let you hunt over his dogs if he thought your firearm was inadequate. I am sure he has a ton of money tied up in those hounds. Tom.
