Mostly been a lurker for a while, but I picked up my first USO - a SN-3 slimline 1.8-10x37. It has the green ill rheostat. Anyway, when I received it, it all looked great. I bought it second-hand from someone on this board who said that it was still new in that it hadn't ever been mounted on a gun or used. The build sheet he included dates it from 2007 though. Looking at the physical appearance, it does indeed look brand new and if the build sheet said it were made yesterday, I wouldn't question it.
Anyway, when I got it I noticed that when I turn on the green rheostat, the view is a bit cloudy almost like smudges or humidity inside the optic. Both the eye and objective lenses are perfectly clean, however. At first, I thought it just needed to acclimate to AZ, but that was me rationalizing that I just spent $2K+ on this new optic so it couldn't be any problem with it and I chalked it up to me being a perfectionist. I put it away and just took it out today to check it out again. Of course, no difference. Now, I do live in AZ, so there is 0 humidity all the time here - not sure if that has any bearing on this. None of my Nightforce optics have ever had any such problem. I was thinking of moving to USO, but...
I tried to take some pics - not easy through a scope. When the rheostat is at "4", the "fogging" starts to become noticeable. At max setting "11" it's almost unusable. Any input - or is this just a "send it back to USO" type deal?
Even if it is, I am still curious what this is, or what would have caused it.
Several more pics here.
