Got my gun back from the smith

Last year I got bitten by this precision rifle thing so I bought a Rem 5r and a Weaver 5-20 tactical scope. It was a nice setup and the more I read on this board and the more I shot the better i got(I can't thank the members here enough). Anyway, after about 2700 rounds my groups started opening up and I was getting flyers that weren't all my fault. I figure I'll get a new barrel and what the hell might as well get everything else at the same time because I'm going to retire this year and it's a lot easier to justify while I've still got an income. So, today I picked it up and wanted to share with you all - Rick

Rock creek barrel
Action trued
LOP +1in.
Badger DBM
Dark Metal brake
Ceracote
Sight base bedded
Jewell trigger
Bolt knob by AZ Precision
Bolt fluting by Kampfeld
USO rings and bases

Where can I get a Weaver scope like that one?

Seriously, it looks great. Let us know how it shoots.

Re: Got my gun back from the smith

It's kind of funny, I thought I was over reaching spending 700 on the Weaver when I started but it was easy to talk myself into the USO a year later.

Looks good, GO SHOOT! </div></div>

What is the barrel length on it? </div></div>

20 inches

"Can you take a pic of the bolt?"

I'll take a picture of the bolt this weekend

"Holy Hubble!"

I know it looks huge but I mostly shoot prone or off a bench and it doesn't bother me, maybe it's all those years of shooting shotguns with stacked barrels and I don't notice

Due to work and the 8 inches of snow we got I can't get out to shoot it until next week, I'll have a report after.

"What is the contour, and twist-rate, of that barrel?"
Sendero 1-11.27

"How do you like the Dark Metal brake?"
I really like the style and wanted to get the Roedale brake but they were having troubles and I heard the wait was very lengthy. Someone on the board here posted about Dark Metal but it seems no one has bought one. I was nervous about buying it because it was only $75 (including shipping) and the Roedale was a Bazillion Euros which converts to a divorce in American money. Haven't shot it yet but if it doesn't fly off the end of the gun I'm very happy with the fit & finish.

As far as the rings go, yeah they're too high and I'll start a thread on new guy lessons learned (or dumbass decisions I've made)in the near future. This is the worst feature of 35mm scopes to me, the rings are just not that common so unless I find someone with low rings that needs medium (fat chance) I gotta save for new rings and throw these in my box of mistakes and bad moves

Very nice build! Is that what Kampfeld calls his TI fluting design?
I have a Dark Metal brake on the way. I was in the same boat as you, I wanted a Roedale brake, but the combination of doing a transaction overseas, the potential of an extremely long wait, and other issues I had read about here made me nervous. The DM brake looks very similar to the Roedale design, so hopefully it will perform as well.
