Hello all, I am glad I found this site and I hope I fit in well, and I am looking forward to interacting and hopefully contributing as well. Great looking site. A tickle slow to register and navigate but apparently many are having the same issues so I'm sure it is temporary.

What a mountain of incredible info available here!! I will be reading for days!

I have a B&C Medalist on the way for my .308 Howa 1500 Tactical 20" heavy barrel. I am not certain I will bother with the detachable magazine kit when I change out my current stock, because I do not like the polymer look and feel so much. I never even put it in the Hogue Overmolded stock the rifle came with. It would be nice for shooting groups of 3 shot strings. Be able to do 3 strings before reloading.

In case I decide to change my mind, does anyone know if the Howa 10rd detachable magazine kit will drop right into the B&C stock?

If not, what sort of modifications/Dremel work will be required? Considering that B&C says if I remove more than a credit card thickness of material off their stock, I will void my warranty. They would not say if the Howa mag kit works in their stocks, because they do not have one to try/fit to. Legal reasons maybe?

I also ordered a bedding kit for the B&C from stocky'sstocks, on their recommendation. Is it necessary to bed my action to the B&C right away.....at all? Should I shoot it a bit first? Somebody told me even a stock should be "broken in". I've never heard such a thing.

Now, before you go off on really 'smith intense lingo and details, please bear in mind I am new to the concept of fine tuning rifle stocks etc. I'm not afraid though.....I've worked with my hands and brain all my life......over 40yrs and have been a master motorcycle mechanic for around 30 yrs, although I'm out of the trade now. But I've done a ton of fabricating and fine detail work....much of it in my current gig in film and TV production also. I still have all my trade tools, hand tools, air tools etc....3 high toolbox. So I am confident I can do this work, and have the tools to do it..... unless I'm told to leave it alone and take it to a gunsmith, by an expert here.

I hope I don't come off as full of it.....I'm really not, fully laid back really......I just want to give solid info for you guys to make determinations from.

Thanks folks. I look forward to your advice.

Cheers!

Re: Greetings friends-a quick question

Welcome to the Hide. Yup, lots of good info here and with the search function I'm pretty sure about anything you can think of asking there will be a thread on it. Fascinating hobby this LR shooting is, not cheap but also don't have to break the bank to enjoy it either.

So does anyone know if the Howa detachable magazine kit will work in a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock?
