Howdy friends,

I have a mk13 mod 5 currently being built at RBA. Don't plan on buying an OG KAC can for the prices they're worth. Other option is the GA MGL-11, which is currently out of production, but they said they're doing another run.

Curious to hear from guys who got one of the MGL-11s during the first run. Or just thoughts/opinions from anyone.

I know I'll be able to shoot the gun w/o a can, but where's the fun in that. It'll be close enough to clone correct for my happiness.

Thanks!

I saw. I got my name on the list too.

Still curious for any feedback from the guys who got cans during the first run.
I picked up an MG11 (MK11 MOD 0 clone) for SR-25s - got #19. They seem to shoot comparably to the other suppressors that people often put on AR10s and the like - certainly not hearing safe, but great for the recoil and concussion (especially on the MK11/13, with no muzzle device it's brutal raw).

Compared to the KAC cans, they are considerably lower pressure (great for gas guns) and the locking feature on the latch is a tremendous improvement over the original.

On an SR25, it's no contest. The GA's improvements make a big difference over the og. On a MK13? I don't think the reduced pressure or locking collar matter as much. The only reason to get the KAC oem is for the authentic look, but the only reason to get the GA is the price.

Great info! Appreciate it.
I feel bad because I ducked GA's emails and calls for the round 2 preorder =/.
I decided to gamble on trying to get the Tyr1 for the looks tbh. Need that dumb dimple vibe on my mk13.

I snagged the MGL11 on this pre order round. I was also tied on going for it or trying for the Tyr1, ultimately decided to ensure I get one. Might try for the Tyr1 down the road.

Right. That was the calculus made. I was going to order a guaranteed GA and then let it sit on my FFL's books. But he didn't want to hold onto it for me :cautious:. I'm sure I'll be sad when I don't get the T1 either, and have no can at all. Had to go for the gold though!

Well initially Tyr1 said they were doing a preorder. But then further discussion with them showed a cap of 50 on a “preorder” which isn’t the same thing obviously lol. Once I saw that I made the choice on GA. Also, GA does a fat discount for Mil/Le, so that made it even easier of a choice.

I talked to the owner a few times. Originally originally he said no preorders. Then I guess he changed it. The 50 cap is rough. I'm sure there's going to be a second run, but idk, we'll see.
I didn't know GA did a fat MIL discount. Dang. Whoops.

I need one for my Mk13 mod 5 but I'm on the fence. 2k is better than 8k for a knights...but there is no feedback on them. I asked griffin if they had ever tried the mgl-11 on said rifle and they said no and they would have someone testing soon. I offered myself and no response besides "it should work". I get that it depends on your smith and his accuracy to barrel profile (mine is RWS), but if the uncertainty on their end made me pass. They're making some more so maybe just go for it?? I'm on the email list...

That's kinda why I was digging for info too. The only video with review info is the Mullets guy. Kinda weird they said "should work". Don't like that.
They called people on the wait list the week of 3Feb. Did they not get you?

No calls for me, they said the waitlist was closed when I emailed them in December. I was advised maybe some would be available through an instagram message. Also, I'm sitting on a little nest egg with a full built badass deployment kit super clone. If I buy the can...selling this for my future skiff boat is going to be a bit complicated if I decide to do so. If I get the can, might as well keep it. I'm really surprised no testing was done. Thoroughbred must have sold a hundred kits back in the day so I'm sure there is a market for our rifle.

They should go live on their website soon. I prob shoulda bought one as a backup, but whatever.
My gun is off being built right now anyway. So, I've got time to try for the Tyr1, and then the (hopeful) second run of them.
I'd say there's a market. None of us want to spend 8k on a KAC and wanna suppress the guns. I think this second run of Griffins proves that.

Griffin makes a great product, I have zero concerns it’ll be up to par.

I received my approval about 2 weeks ago and am now waiting for capital armory to ship it to my house. Very exited. From time of purchase to receiving should be right at 1 month. Easy time compared to years prior. I'll post a follow up.

Mine just got approved this morning. This was my first time using this process, I will most likely never choose to do this again. For me, there is too many inconvenient steps that had to be taken to make it work, and now I still have to wait for it to ship and coordinate being home when it arrives to sign for it. I’d much rather have it shipped to a local FFL to start with and submit through silencershop. Did this that exact process two weeks ago with a can from thoroughbred armament and had it approved and in my hands within 9 days.

I can understand that. I had a pretty good experience and the steps were straight forward for me. I had an eft file and atf login ready to send. The additional steps to notify your Cleo and the 14 day wait after approval does suck. I don't recall capital armory mentioning that part of the process. I'm about 2.5 hours from their shop so I guess I could take a drive, but figured I'd be patient. I'm gonna take a sick day when it's schedule for delivery and drink some garage beers while I wait for the UPS man...

That was one of the things I didn't like for this can. (not that I bought it...yet?....) Don't like being forced to use their obscure process. Especially when the wait times for a can can be down to less than 24hrs and my FFL is 10mins away.

I'm betting your barrel diameter is just a tad too thick. Mine has a visual step where the taper starts. I wonder if you could hit your barrel with some fine grit to get it in place...if not, back to the smith...

That's what it looks like to me. I just really don't want to ship it out, this barrel will be killed within the next year or so anyways so I'll see if I could get a local guy to resolve my issue.

I’m sure the process has been smooth for others using it, definitely not for me. I’m still waiting on the CLEO hold, which is crazy. Biggest draw back for me is the absolute necessity for using a computer during the process. Unlike the in store silencer shop process which is way smoother and allows you to certify using your phone. The 9-5hrs Monday-Friday also made it more difficult since I work shift work. Overall, better than paper filing, but I’d much rather just do it in store with the kiosk and be done. And not have to wait on shipping and being home to sign. Again, shift work complicates those things. Just my experience with it. Small things, but annoying when waiting on a 2k purchase.

I just got mine from Capitol Armory. Doesn't fit my Redbull Armory Mk13 Mod 5. Splendid.
Well that's good to know. My gun is coming from RBA too.

Right. I agree. I'd much rather be able to Kiosk it like everything else, and on my own schedule. That CLEO hold thing is fucking stupid. I get what they're trying to do with their process. But reinventing the wheel after SilencerShop has it set pretty well, is meh.

Please keep me posted if it fits your RBA.

I really didn't mind capital armory's process. If you have your stuff inline, it's straightforward and they do a good job emailing you prompts to fill out your end of the deal. I've had some dogshit FFL's in town sit on my paperwork or not certify, or not want to transfer from anyone BUT silencerco, or not be in town, etc. This was my 8th can, and it was on me to get the process going. I called on a Monday and the guy that certifies answered, we did our thing, and boom, sent to atf.

No hate, but if you're an older person not used to computers or multiple logins/emails/tech...yeah, the process will be overwhelming. Stick with storefronts and kiosks where the personal touch is needed.

The CLEO deal wasn't more than an extra 7 days at the end of it. My entire transaction from buying on Griffon's website to UPS man handing me a suppressor was 28 days. I have waited 368 days back when and still had to jump through hoops.

Im no capital armory fanboy as this was my first dealings with them, but I got a shirt after 1 week, they were professional and the process made sense, can was shipped overnight, and I was doing yard work on a Saturday when my can showed up. Received a hard printout of my form 4, some stickers, a thank you note, and good packaging.

Little to no effort on my end reflecting. I'll probably just buy my cans from them if they have in stock moving forward...if they don't, I'll be using Silencershop and local ffl that sometimes sucks.

Same wheel in my opinion, just a different style.

For sure, everyone’s experiences is different. And if it didn’t work GA wouldn’t use it. Just preference.

Also, I’m 29 and my entire job is using computers haha. Just wasn’t a fan of it. I’m into the double digits of cans at this point and Form 1’s, my very first form 4 took 16 months. So no complaints here, just opinion.

Stoked to get it, whenever that may be. Purchased on Feb 19, still hasn’t started the CLEO hold process. Major lame. The last can I got was shipped from Kentucky to Idaho, processed through silencershop and in my hand in 9 days total.
