I finally got this can out of jail and had an opportunity to try it on a few different hosts. Since I hadn't really seen many reviews I thought I would post a little info and some pics to allow people thinking about getting it to have a little more data. Unfortunately I don't have any of the fancy equipment for measuring actual sound levels. I can say that it's very quiet on a rimfire. I had it on my Vudoo and the weight actually seemed to make it feel even more like my match rifle weight and balance wise.
I also tried it on my Sign 556 in the direct thread configuration. It was considerably quieter than without, but it was still a little loud for doing much shooting. It would probably be good for a coyote calling rifle or something like that where you weren't expecting to fire a lot of shots, but it would definitely take the edge off for a hand full of purposeful shots.
I added the taper mount adapter and mounted it on my Mausingfield with a 223 barrel, threaded 5/8x24. I used the minimalist brake to connect the two and it all worked out well. The sound level with the taper mount adapter significantly reduced the sound level compared to the direct thread configuration. Once again I don't have a meter, but this was comfortably hearing safe. It looks a little different due to the silencer being a smaller diameter can than most for centerfire, but it worked amazingly well. I would guess that adding the taper mount adapter increases volume somewhere around 25%. It sounded very good this way and did not have a high pitched tone like I was expecting.
Taking it all apart was very easy and a quarter makes about the perfect tool for disassembly. I used it on the 223s after firing about 200 rimfire rounds and you can see how it looks after about 50 223 rounds. I was surprised by how clean it was. I did a quick wipe down, but nothing significant. I guess I will have to drop it in the ultra sonic at some point, but so far it's pretty clean. I do usually wipe the baffles down with Eezox before firing the first time and then after cleaning and that does seem to make it easier to clean. Putting it back together isn't too bad and it's downright easy once you figure out that you can just spin the last baffle and they will all click together.
Well, if you read this far, I'm sorry there isn't any real data here. I bought this can mostly for a rimfire host, but after trying it with the taper mount, I'm sold on it as a 223 can. It is also rated up to 22-250 with a 22" barrel. This isn't published data, but I would guess it would be fine on a 22 Creed with a 24" or longer barrel. I haven't tried it on any of them because I don't have any hosts in those calibers. I am having a 22BR threaded now and plan on using it on that as well. If you're trying to save a little money on stamps, I think this may be a good choice. I think they're doing a 25% deal for Black Friday this weekend as well.
