Gunsmithing Grizzly G0709 lathe info from owners

Guys I am looking at buying a grizzly G0709 lathe to do some barrel chambers. Just wondering how they are working for those that own them? I have seen a few complaints about vibration. Any feed back would be great. And yes I would love a bigger machine but just cant swing the price.

I have a g4016 and love it for barrel work. No vibration. Not same model but that 0709 is even bigger then my 13-40 and I would assume even more rigid. Ymmv

The G0709 is a stretched G4003 as bet I can tell. Overall, it's not a bad lathe biggest issue is the harmonic pattern that show up when turning some stuff. Still haven't run it down 100% other than that it's a good value for the money. I looked at a variety of lathes in the same class and the Grizzly came out on top. Precision spindle bearings with immeasurable runout, the vee way on the tail stock were the two features that put it over the top. It can't compare to my Lodge & Shipley 16" tool room lathe but the L&S it almost 48" thru the headstock which creates a challenge when doing barrel work.

I have one and very happy with it. Mine had some vibration and I traced it to the motor key, it has the keyway cut thru the motor pulley and only a small key in the motor shaft so I made a new key. The new key is made to fill all of the keyway in the pulley and fill all of the keyway in the shaft, that fixed it good. The motor RPM with that much metal gone makes for some good vibs. By filling the empty space it acts as if nothing has been removed. All the rest of the Lathe is just fine for barrel and other work, its not a production machine. If you treat it good and keep the ways wiped clean and well oiled it will do you a great job. I'm a happy owner.

I love mine , but then again I'm not a machinist. I am slowly learning though. I just piddle on mine . If I ever learn it - it will be a great machine.
