I did a search and came up with these Pelican Storm cases and I check around and found a place that had them and I called the place and they don't carry a case that will hold 2 rifles.

Does anyone know of a Pelican type case that will hold and AR-15 and Win Model 70 with scope? The airport says that I have to be able to lock the case with TSA locks, Sorry if this was already covered somewhere else. Might also like to put in there my 357 Revolver as well if possible thanks.

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

I have a Pelican 1750 that I carry both an Armalite SASS and Savage 10 both with scopes. It's a tight fit but it works. I could fit a pistol in there if I had to. I've flown twice with it and love it. I've watched the baggage guys drop it and I've even dropped it myself and the guns are safe. It's heavy, but worth it. I've always put my own heavy duty lock on it and TSA is satisfied. Once I saw they put on some tiny little cheesy lock when I arrived at my destination and the TSA guys there took it off for me. But if you show up with your own, you should be fine.

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

I got keyed-alike Master locks (surprise, surprise--made in China)for my 1750 last time. I locked them after the inspection and covered them up with duct tape. The stuff got there just fine going and coming back.
I think you'd have room for the AR and the bolt gun in the Pelican 1750.

I would recommend you read this article created by LoneWolfUSMC here on the hide.

DO NOT USE TSA "APPROVED" LOCKS. This may seem like a good idea at first, but the TSA locks are setup with a master key so that TSA can unlock them whenever they wish. This is a violation of the Federal Regulations.

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

I like the Pelican, Storm, and Starlight best. I find the Storm and Starlight large sizes best (The Pelican is deeper and shorter). I have the Starlight. I've crammed the thing when moving with about 2 long guns, 2 AR uppers, and 5 pistols. They all fit it you take out the padding and wrap them up seperately.
Word of warning on the airport bag loss policies though: most are only 2.5-3 thousand dollars. So if you have more than this in the box, you may want your own insurance.

Delta has a $3500 limit, don't ask me how I know...

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

Hardig should also work.

Everytime I have flown it was for work. Watch the weapons/cases get physicaly loaded, the door shut and then load the plane!

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

I've got a Pelican 1750 that I usually take the foam out of, and put my eagle HSRC into for travelling in a trunk. Do you think thats good enough for flying, or would the foam be more protective?

Last time I put non-TSA locks on a case they dragged me out of the waiting area to open my case for TSA to inspect. They don't seem to be very consistent in their policy.

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

Lennyo,

a.) get a personal articles insurance policy without exclusions for your gun(s), scopes, equipment. Usually these policies are provided by your auto insurance provider. Its referred to as an "all perils" coverage, meaning no matter what happens, its covered.

b.) get a welded aluminum case with more than one lock point.

c.) made for your purpose.

d.) cut the foam for your guns. This is important. The guns might not bang against the case top and bottom this way. Baggage handlers DO NOT care about your case or guns. They actually hate having to handle them. In fact, just because your box looks strong, at 1:00 a.m., when no one is looking, they will throw that nice new box from the cargo hold to the tarmac so you can see it worked (or not). Bet on it.

Wrap guns in bubble wrap, then put them in the foam moldings in the aluminum box.

e.) consider shipping the guns ground FRAGILE sufficiently before your travel to verify they're arrival at your destination.

f,) INSURANCE. INSURANCE. INSURANCE. MY WERE STOLEN. Six Thousand ($6,000.00) Dollars worth) INSURANCE.

g.) better ideas?

Re: Gun Case 4 Flying?

The federal regulations are very clear on the subject... only you can have the key/combination to the lock. If they flag it, they will attempt to call you so they can inspect the cargo. There really isn't any inconsistencies in their policy (IE don't use TSA approved locks). Expect your bag to get flagged.

From LoneWolfUSMC article:
"Make sure your luggage is tagged with your full name and cell phone number.

Once your bag has been sent to TSA they will commence their screening process. Remain near the ticket counter for 20 minutes or so. This will involve x-ray and sniffer screening. In the larger, modern airports your bag may not be touched by human hands again until the ground crew loads it on the aircraft.

If your bag gets flagged (and there is a good chance it will) then TSA will attempt to contact you. You did make sure your luggage was tagged with your name and cell phone number right? Once TSA or a ticket agent has advised you that your bag needs to be opened you will be directed on where to go. Under no circumstances are you to hand over your key or combination unless the bag is in your presence. (See #2 and #3 below) If you cannot be contacted your locks will most likely be broken and your bag will be searched. If the bag cannot be locked, it cannot be loaded on the aircraft. This is the reason I suggest carrying extra locks. If for some reason your are notified after the locks have been cut, you can still secure the case and make your flight."
