Re: Gun just went off!!!!
LoneWolf, I am sure there are triggers out there that haven't had a malfunction, but the design issue is there, and it isn't up to me to prove this to you. There is plenty of information available on it. Especially in this day and age of the information highway. If you do some searching you will find that whenever this issue comes up, it is almost exclusively with someone running the original Remington trigger system. You will also notice that there is hords of people who respond that have had the same issue. Any time I talk to people about this issue, it seems to me (without any solid numbers to back it up), that if someone running remingtons hasn't personally had this happen, they know of someone who has. Holes in floorboards, window, close calls, scares, and much worse. This shit is real, and it revolves around a single fire control design. This issue isn't exclusive to the civilian market either. Ever wonder why departments are now training their folks to not use the safety? Bolt up or open.. that is almost exclusively the policy now. Why is that??? You ever wonder who started the whole "you can't trust a safety, it is a mechanical device" marketing campaign??? You don't need to look to me for answers, because they are out there for those that care to look for them.
For what it is worth, I am glad you have never had an issue, and I am glad that many people running the triggers haven't. I just wish we didn't use that as the basis for our argument that there is not a potential problem, because it just covers up the issue. I am sure not every corvair blew up... but it didn't make them safe. I am sure not everyone running an SUV with firestone tires rolled and killed everyone inside... but enough did that it caused a massive recall of those tires.
The solution is relatively cheap, especially if you compare it to the cost of a window, or a floorboard. It is a no-brainer when you start thinking about what ifs... what if this trigger had potential to go off when I didn't want it to? where will it be pointed when it does? Am I absolutely certain that I ALWAYS have it pointed in a safe direction??? What if the solution only cost me $65, what if I could drop in something that cost me $150? What if I was unloading it and I wasn't paying attention that 1 time. What if the bullet hits something hard and ricochets?
At the end of the day, we all have a responsibility to ourselves and each other to try and be as safe as we can. I am just trying to raise some questions, so hopefully I have fulfilled my obligation to myself and to my brothers...
