I went long action with badger bottom metal. Don't know the exact measurements, but how deep would u need to seat a 180 vld to fit in a short action mag? I did not want to deal with all that crap. I got room to do whatever. I use the 180 hybrids. Just off the lands the bearing surface starts right at the neck shoulder junction where I like it, and I measure to the ogive so I don't k ow but I suspect it would be too long for a short magazine. Maybe I settled? What is the advantage of the short action, weight? This rifle weighs like 14 lbs. by the way it shoots like, well, a long rifles inc built rifle. I'm no expert by any stretch, just my two cents.
My thoughts exactly. Decided on a surgeon 1086 LA with kmw sentinel DBM using 338lm magazine. I too didn't want to be restricted to a alpha mag. Originally wanted to use a surgeon wsm with seekins wsm DBM. Unfortunately, seekins no longer manufacture wsm DBM.
Its dustin at GAPs fault he told me to go with wsm action lol. Ahh wth ive seen numerous guys here using wsm action with no hickub..and beside 808joel got enough mulas to blow my build is on the budget lol.. with all that expensive stuff you bettah outperform/outshoot me convincingly haha..
L/a, stiller tac300, krieger #17-8.5 twist finished 30", ross schuler brake, mcmillan a5 adjustable. Reamer is .317 neck .188 freebore.
We all know, It doesn't matter how much you spend on a rifle, if the nut behind the trigger (me) dont do his part then everything will be mute. I wouldn't worry, a 7saum has been proven to work in a short action. Just have to find a good smith and work your load. Who know, you may come across a seekin wsm DBM.

Seekins is ok but i think surgeon is much better, the magwell is a plus with ambi mag release takes aw or ai mag. I think the accu mag got the largest inside oal (3.050) i ordered minde direct from accu mag i like my surgeon bottom better than badger or my cdi.stealth m5 also takes aw mag its what im using on my 260.alpha is good too 2.965 but out of stock..i think ill be using redding 3 die set up.those body die is very useful for fireforming..ey do u have a lot of d 4831sc or rl25?
My barrel is also krieger but 8.75 HV 31" im still debating what length ill keep my barrel.i also have my rosd 7mm brake in hand in one inch.i wanted to contour eith .900 barrel but ross said his brake cant be contour it can only taper.. what contour barrel you have and what brakes size is yours? Are you going to contour it with your barrel muzzle?
Same here i got 10-15lb each for all my cal including pistol id be set for 10yrs or so lol..when i start loading i might buy 1lb each 4831sc and h1000 just for load test. I heard rl25 is great for saum...brah i cant wait!
Its a HV. May as well leave it long, not like its gonna be a light rifle either way.. lol. Plus you can always cut it shorter but can't make it longer. That's bad news on the brake. I planned to contour it to the barrel as well. Might have to go with a little bastard in that case.
ross is 45.oo shipped LB is 125.00 taper to you barrell. any smith can taper ross to your barrel comtour..i think ross works ecxactly the same as LB brake plus 3 port above hold muzzle jump.ill stick to my ross ill make my smith taper it.althou i was just checking my ross and comparing to LB and truster i think contouring can be done

yup H100o is everyones choise on 7wsm while 7saum are either 4831sc or RL25 any of these powder will do the job on both saum or wsm

If you need brass midway has remmy 300saum available. You have to spell it out in the search box as 300 remington short action ultra magnum brass.

is milo doing your build..yup im just looking at those brass too..i was also looking at the hybrid 180 1.529 while, the target 180 1.525 i think the target works better on wsm that .004 different give you more to play on magazine overall..i already got 500vld target start up on load dev....do you know what reamer suit the wsm 2.950 saum on wsm action?

I have found remmy 300saum brass is actually shorter than 7saum by aprox .028" for whatever reason. Measured before neck sizing if it matters.
