Returned on Monday from the Gunwerks Monster Steel Challenge in Cody WY.

Awesome match hosted by Gunwerks and directed by Philip V and Caylen W of the training side of Gunwerks. I really enjoyed their approach to this match. The format was divided among your typical square range style PRS events and a big wide open field course.

    The Highlights for me were:

    1. Deploying the gear on the clock
    2. Mag changes on stages
    3. The wide layout of the targets - you had to locate them
    4. The target distribution - again it required movement to line up on the targets
    5. The thought involved in understanding the order of targets when shooting, Center, Left, Right, - Right, Center, Left, - Left Right Center you did not just repeat yourself over and over
    6. Field Stages !
    7. The through the scope identification stage
    8. The wind and weather - fronts moved through changing it all
    9. My squad of 6 new shooters,
    10. The food and the social aspect of it all

    Great pics Frank!

It was a learning experience for me all the way around. My first national level match but I loved the format. Super fun course of fire.

I was having case head separation issues from what I’d learn was me oversizing my brass but I still shot okay considering.

That damn creeper van got me bad! I went in with full blown tunnel vision and didn’t even see whatever it was that they had stashed in there to shoot off of. Basically shot offhand at the first target cause I couldn’t see it otherwise. A valuable learning lesson for sure.

The Creeper Van stage was great, it fooled a lot of people

All they had in there was a wooden crate behind the seat, but they built it up as if there would be more. I saw a lot of guys carry everything into the van, I used my Tripod and Warhorse Bag only.

The tripod was used to get the first target then I went prone for the rest

I didn’t participate - but observed Saturday @ our local range. Maybe next year I will get into a little PRS.

Great job by Gunwerks and I learned a bunch just being there.

Good to meet a few of you in person
