Rifle Scopes H2CMR vs MSR reticule - Updating opinions

First off yes I searched and read all the threads I could find.

Most threads were about 1+ years old and posted right after people started using the H2CMR and not too many had received the MSR yet. I want to get updated feedback.

So after a couple of years of use is the H2CMR still the favorite? Anybody have the MSR for awhile?

Yup H2CMR still my favorite. Like the .2 mil marks for wind holds and movers and the way the whole reticle is set up. You can break down to .1 mil like the MSR also. The whole reticle illuminates as well if that is important to you.

I have not used the MSR but after careful consideration bought the H2CMR. I just felt the MSR was too busy for my low tech brain to comprehend as quickly as the H2CMR.
My other S&B is a P4 and though not bad I still prefer H2CMR.

I read your posts when you first got the H2CMR. Do you also have a MSR?

I'm curious why the H2CMR is the only reticule with that illumination feature?

No don't have an MSR but have looked at it and sorry but all I see is a P4F with a .1 mil L bracket in the lower left quadrant and a quick ranging steps in the lower right. The steps would be useful for quick military engagements but not real useful for civilian use. The L is nice but you can do the same with the H2CMR. The one good thing it has over the P4F is that the center crosshair gap is at. 5 mils. Not worth the extra $200 the reticle option. Sorry as I am sure that might rub some the wrong way but its my opinion.

Not sure why the illumination is set up like it is but it is nice to have everything illuminated.

H2CMR all the way. The versatility is beyond peer. The reticle is just about perfect.

I had the MSR on order and it was taking awhile to come in. As I waited I did more research and came across Rob01's thread on the H2CMR. I'm not a scope guy and I was able to quickly understand what the reticle could tell me. The vendor had the H2CMR in stock with no sign of when the MSR's were coming and my rifle was about a week out.

I decide to forgo waiting for the MSR and took the available H2CMR. I dont regret it one bit.

I went MSR strictly because I loved the P4F so much. For those of you that love the P4F is a nice upgrade to a familiar system that works. I like hashes and not such a big fan of the circles in the h2cmr or .2 windage, but again thats only because I have not used it and am not familiar with it. I chose MSR due to familiarity factor. You have all your tools in both reticles. MSR seems easier for me to go with and I love it.

I have the MSR in a Steiner 5-25, The reticle thickness is between a S&B P4 and P4F. I also have a Leupold 6.5X20 converted by Premier Reticles with a Gen II MD. The point of all this is I prefer the thickness of my Leupold/Premier over the thickness of the MSR. The MSR is a great reticle and beats a lot of the competition (for example a TMR style reticle) however if I were ever to tryout a H2CMR I may be inclined to buy a S&B with one. The reason is it appears you can mill with it just as good/easy as the MSR 0.1 grid, plus for movers I like the idea of having the 0.2 mil hash marks. I also prefer a Gen II MD scope vs. hash marks. One advantage the MSR has over the H2CMR is the ability to holdover 10+ mils depending on power setting.

FWIW, the Klein reticle also has the full illumination just as the H2CMR.

On topic, I've looked through quite a few of each and my vote also goes to the H2CMR and own three of them.
It's ease of use for both wind holds and ranging in a clear, uncluttered design is unmatched.
Also, the capability to range down to even .05 by splitting the hollow .1 center portion of the dot makes its ranging ability exceptionally accurate.

The MSR is a vast improvement over the P4 and also a good choice There are lots of people very happy with the MSR and prefer it so I'd try to look through both before drawing your own conclusion.

Because large illuminated surface area causes light pollution.
Everything possible illuminated looks wo-hoo and fancy, but keeping things optimized for practical usage is another thing.
