Starting a new load for my rifle. H4350 can not be found at this time so I am starting a "out of stock load." I picked up some H4831 to try since it was available and plan to use Smk 175 and 190s. I did a search and found some using it but looking for more. I also have W760/h414 and IMR 4350. This will be from a 24" bartlein 1/10 barrel for distance.
Thanks

Re: H4831 and 3006

Thanks. 4831 seems close to the burn rate of H4350 maybe a little slower. The IMR 4350 may be temp sensitive for long range , don't know will have to work on it.

Re: H4831 and 3006

From new nosler manual:
H4831:
Starting is 53.0 grs...2394fps (most accurate btw) for 190
MAX LOAD is 57.0 grs...2620fps FOR 190gr
.
Starting is 58.0 grs...2589fps for 175
MAX LOAD is 62.0 grs...2754fps FOR 175gr
(most accurate is 60gr..2683)
.
From Nosler #7 (cool new manual at least layout of colors on pages)

Ive had very good luck with 4000MR, as well as H4350 with 180 Hornadys, used 57grs. 5/8ths MOA out to 300yds(3 shots groups). This is from my model 70 deer rifle.

Re: H4831 and 3006

Accuracy is most important always for me. I expect the H4831 will be slower velocity wise vs the H4350. We have nasty weather here now so I can not get out and find out yet.

"I picked up some H4831 to try since it was available and plan to use Smk 175 and 190s"

For those bullet weights you will do fine.

Re: H4831 and 3006

I think I will be able to work with H4831. I found that a few like it and have good results. I see ALOT of shooters like the IMR 4350 which I have but I am concerned about the sensitivity of it. When the weather allows I can get out do some testing.

Re: H4831 and 3006

I use both 4350 and 4831sc in my 3006 with 175g brgers and it does very well!! accuracy is very good holding 1/2 to 300.. havnt got out an tried any further just yet..

Re: H4831 and 3006

I use 55.5gr of H4350 behind a 190SMK, actual dope says 2880fps from a 27" Krieger.
I tried 4831SC first but it lacked speed and long range accuracy.

The sweet spot in my barrel is broad from 54.5gr to 55.5 gr. Anything in this charge window produces less than .5 MOA at 300yds.

I would likely opt for the IMR4350 over the 4831. As has been said temp sensitivity may be a factor with IMR offerings.

Your chamber has an awful lot to do with what is going to work best. I have a Serengetti chamber, and it does not have an extremely long throat. It is one hell of a good reamer for great 30-06 accuracy though.

Re: H4831 and 3006

Thanks for the info guys. Things would be simpler if I could find H4350 in stock . It's good to have a backup powder and load anyways so now I am on the hunt.

Re: H4831 and 3006

Accuracy wise my Model 1941 USMC (1903 springfield) Sniper build with the H4350 will shoot right around 1/3moa. Not bad out of a action made in 1918 and the barrel isn't full floated hey?

Older IMR4064 shot pretty good in .30-06 also. You want to stay with a med. to slower burning powder that fills the case up more.

I'll look at home but I also believe I've loaded one of the VV series of powders and it worked great as well.

Re: H4831 and 3006

Not to Hi-Jack but are you guys using Mag primers with H4831? I've only shot upto 165's in my '06 and 4831 seemed to have excessive flash compared to 4350 and VV powders. Again I used a lighter bullet.
