K-Bars Half-Face Blades enthusiasts thread

I've been wanting to buy a HFB for years. I've been following them since 2015, maybe someone who has owned a few can answer a couple questions for me.

For hunting utility, which blade is the most useful? I have been debating between a crow jr, a disaster jr, and a a cavner blade.

The skinner is clearly the best for skinning -- but for quartering game, and general everyday use -- which of the 3 i listed would you buy?

Also -- how well do they hold their edge? I'm assuming they come razor sharp and hold a fantastic edge, but lets hear what you guys have experienced.

Thanks

Dark

Disaster Jr is probably the best all round knife for EDC and Hunting IMO. Small enough/Big enough to handle most chores if you know what you are doing.

They hold an edge well, you can quarter an elk and have plenty of edge left to keep working. A gritty pig will make you go back to the stone and touch it up. They resharpen easily in my experience, I do not let mine get overly dull. Can touch up with a steel in between sharpening.

My hunting knife is the Crow Scout, EDC is Disaster Jr. , Spike/Karambit/SHPOS special situations

Late to the thread. Are the patriot hawks going to be smokers or hammer poll ?

Full tang. So no three dimensional feature. And waiting to see how Andy handles the tail. It’s up to him. The model is Mel Gibson’s tomahawk from the French Indian wars in The Patriot. Pix earlier in this thread I think.

And we liked the Fillson collaboration he did and said it was really close. Other than that... gonna be a surprise!

Andy’s doing beautiful work, really liking the knife handle workups he’s putting together and coupled with the Damascus is icing. Never know if what I’m thinking about will be “a next”, but really love to get a custom Damascus Bowie of some kind. Won’t be too soon though but 😏 that could change. His stuff does “gets me”. 🤙 Gold Cardiac still coming when ready.

Man I got fooled last night. I watched the first wave get snatched up, so I quit watching. That old cliche about “Fool me once,“ is ringing in my head. I’ll be better prepared for the next drop.
I was right there with you. I snatched my Crow Cub up and called it good, only to get messaged by about 5 different folks that blades were still dropping. So don't think you were the only one that walked away early!

Cool, Gold Spike on the way, reminds me of another Gold Spike in American History. Be a “spiffy” addition to the HFB’s cash. Love that feeling 😏. 🤙
Love those spikes! I have one in my edc... one in the Jeep and one in nightstand. One more and I can use them as a fondue set!

Look forward to pix of the gold!

It kinda’ a weird obsession, funny but not funny, he’s doing nice stuff that’s different. That Gulo-Gulo with black carbon fiber copper infused and deep blue split carbon fiber strips was sweet, almost not there strips. Other thing is after those speacials sell they take them off the page by end of the next day...pictures?, you better record it for ideas if you’re thinking up a custom too if you see something that clicks YOU better at least copy it. 🤙

If I had not just bought a blade on Monday I would have been fighting for that Gulo-Gulo with the blue strip.
That to me was close to the perfect Gulo-Gulo imho.
If you need inspiration check the facebook page.
If they post it on the facebook or instagram page then you can find them on the facebook page in the photos tab.

It’s become like a quest game, the acquisition of a coveted “if lucky...perfect” HFB👀 😀. Oh the glory, oh the pain of it all. It’s not at ALL funny but I can’t help it, it IS a certain kind of hardship to endure. Especially now. It’s amazing. Good things will come. It will happen.

The whole "Grab what you can" then maybe trade thing is really getting annoying... it's like Hungry Hungry Hippos... and then when people get them, they just flip them like Pokeman cards.

I feel bad for Andy because, while the sales are great... it's hard to base a business on artificially-inflated 'trading' market. You can't predict what things are really worth. Have scalpers snatching things from loyal customers. And never know when the bottom will drop out. It's not good for a business owner to have this kind of thing going on. Even though it's good for ego and temporarily good for bottom line.

That said... it's all in good fun. So if the bidding wars and trading (before it's even shipped) make folks happy... well, go for it!

Cheers,

Sirhr
