I have a 65 Grendel upper with a BTE handguard. I don't like the BTE. This is just a hunting rig, 18" barrel no flash hider. What's your opinion on Young, Midwest or SLR. I'm not into spending 300.00 for a Geissele although i like them. I'm thinking along the lines of a 15". I like the skeletonized look over the solid like the BTE.

SLR, Seekins, Midwest, BCM are all very good handguards. I have had them all. I dislike the timing of the Seekins, but the price makes up for the slight hassle. Just make sure the diameter is large enough to clear whichever gas block you as using.

Midwest are serviceable, but going to be on the heavy side. They're less $$ because they could've stood to spend a little more time on the CNC machine. Of the 3 you listed I'd go SLR by a wide margin.

P.S. I second the recommendation of BCM handguards. I'f you're not wanting to spend the money for a Geissele the BCM handguards are gont to be a better all-around value than any of the ones you listed IMHO.

I have Seekins, SLR, LaRue and YHM. I've Troy, JP, RRA.

The SLR and Seekins are on the rifles I shoot the most. SLR is the Solo and Intrepid and are both on my AR10's. The Seekins is SP3R V3 and is on my Grendel. It's a nice handguard. Flat bottom is nice and it's very modular.

The YHM is on my carbine and has been a good basic handguard. The LaRue I have for a 458 build, but I'm still not sure I'll stick with it.

Of what you have listed, I'd go SLR in a heartbeat. Liked the first one I had enough to buy another pretty quick.

I have a jp, 2 yhm, a Dpms and until recently a quad two piece on my carbine. I just ordered a aim handgaurd for it and installed it yesterday. It was $30 for a mid length from optics planet. It has the same exact barrel nut as the yhm’s and had antirotation screws and a jam nut like the yhm. Needless it was very solid. I’ll never pay out the ass for a handgaurd again.

Handguards are very subjective but my favorite is the Noveske NSR. They make them in M-LOK now as well if that's your preference.
Amazing rail.

The monolithic and/or enhanced upper receiver KeyMod handguards such as the Vltor VIS, Aero M4E1, LMT MRP (M-LOK is coming out, as the previous pic rail one was bulky and the SL8 was lame), Mega Arms Megalithic and MKM (Key Mod) and MML (M-LOK) are all very intriguing.
I think Larue does something like this as well.

The JP rapid configuration handguards look interesting. Had I not gone with SLR, I would have been looking for one of those. The old version of the JP I had years and years ago was really nice. It was for an Armalite based AR10, I wish I would have finished that rifle off. Life and responsibilities had me sell off the components I had.

MI has 2 styles for the gen 3. The lightweight doesn’t have a rail full length of the top. I have 1 lightweight 15” and 1 15” standard version. Also have a 12”. These are head and shoulders better than the gen2. No nut to time and anti-rotation.

A little birdie says they have a new handguard coming that’s better than the gen 3.

Just get a low profile block that will fit under a 1.5” tube.

Look at JL Billet 15” m lok, it weighs 10.6 oz with the barrel nut and is under 300$ I personally like the angled cut. They have a 17.2 inch as well. Pic is of their 15” angled.
