ohh, that is rough....but accurate.
What so many people don't know/remember/choose to remember is JFK was in the middle of a battle to to stay at the top of his party....Democrat just incase some don't remember. He was not loved by all like some think he was.....a great many things he did people did not like, not unlike every other Pres. It was only after did he become Saint JFK....and all things bad about the man are pushed to the side. From the mob to other women the guy, and I say family was pretty darn dirty.

Other thing I will say is the rifle (we are a gun forum after all, and our main interests lie in "sniper" type rifles) that in using this example it is far different from every other Carcano I have (4) it is so much tighter, smoother, just better in every way. In shooting them best I can do with my hand loads is minute of softball at 100 yards. The rifles are not "junky" or "garbage". Most of the mis matched examples you see out there are rode hard and put away wet. I have the same thought about the Westinghouse Mosin I have, much tighter then any other mosin I have. It is like a different rifle.

I am showing my age by writing this. My parents took me to a Kennedy campaign rally in 1960 at the Patterson Armory. Don't remember much except I was there. Remember sitting in 3rd grade class when the nuns came in crying telling us he had been assassinated and November 22nd has forever been burned into my memory . Daily routines basically came to a standstill as people parked in front of their B&W TV sets watching the four day funeral event. We will probably never know exactly what happened since as mentioned above most if not all of the players are dead. Do I believe Oswald was a lone wolf assassin? No I do not and all too convenient for Oswald to be killed by Ruby who was terminally ill and had mob ties. There is also speculation Tippet was sent to dispatch Oswald but worked out the other way.

Bush wasn't director until the mid-'70's after the Church Committee Hearings. And before that disaster Stansfield Turner... that Carter appointed.
McCone was director in the '60's... though there was bad blood between the agency and the Kennedy's when the brothers vowed to 'smash the agency' and Dulles after Bay of Pigs fiasco.
Bush is a lot of things... not many of them good. But he wasn't director then.

That said, the early 1960's Dulles Agency was more freewheeling OSS than modern bureaucracy. So far more... stuff... was possible. And could have disappeared. But until someone comes up with the shovel... I don't believe the official account... or any of the theories.
I'll just have to settle for knowing for sure.... who shot JR.

Ford retained ownership of all its plants in Nazi Germany... and the plants used slave labor. Ford even claimed damages from the USG after the war for what happened to their plants during bombing raids. I believe that the 'response' from the USG was that if Ford wanted to claim damages, then they could also be liable to Holocaust Survivors... who were worked to death in the plants.

A whole series of plots were 'considered' under Eisenhower and then Kennedys (who loved James Bond and 'light touch' special operation stuff.) Not sure exactly the timeline, but they were a centerpiece of the Church Committee Hearings in the mid-'70's.
They included the exploding cigar, getting him high on LSD before making a speech, putting depiliatory creme on a seashell so his hair would fall out (and the Cubans would depose him because he looked silly), Poisoning by a hot chick... poisoned diving suit... they came up with some winners. None of which were ever really tried very hard.

You might be surprise. In those days Cuba was tight with the Soviet Union and had lots of training and weapons. Hardened troops from the revolution, they knew their ground, the landing force might have been handed their ass's.

People forget life before the gun changes started, many point to this event that got things really rolling, and I have little doubt it played a large part, for no other reason than it hit the country so hard. It was on all the time like the other poster talked about with the TV coverage. And TV was not like it is not, you got 4 stations if you are lucky at best. I also Charles Whitman just a couple years later also helped push start what we now see as "gun control". And down hill from there getting stricter and stricter while the "mass killings" are getting more and more often.

Don't forget GM as well, they actually pulled strings to keep their plants off the target list.
Opel was a huge supplier to the german war machine....and owned by GM, both in Germany and France plants off the target list.

He did almost serve out his entire term, but I think TR took the country in a different direction. I see TR being at the helm of the US when we really changed from a "little country" to a player in world politics.....for better or worse it was going to happen, the US is just too darn big and too rich for it not to....but on the other hand you can say the same thing about russia.
I don't have a real good grip on his politics (McKinley) to really comment much more.....you might have lit another fire under my brain, and now I am wanting to dig into his views and where he thought the country should be. It was not that long after the civil war only ~30 years....that is not a long time.
I remember seeing a photo of Lincoln in the horse drawn hearse passing down a town, in that photo you see a person leaning out a window looking at it pass by, that person is Teddy Roosevelt.
When you think really how close all these big events are together it is really interesting.

The original idea all the way back to FDR and the NFA was disarmament. Look at his minions. It wasn’t a “good idea”’gone wrong. It was a long term plan. And one preached and predicted in every totalitarian state in history.

Theodore Rex is excellent book. There is another biography that came out at the same time that is very similar. As are several books by my friend Ted Kohn, a great writer and Roosevelt scholar.
He is an interesting guy. Progressive in some ways but very pro-American conservativie in others. IMHO the right man for the time. And as much as I am a laissez -faire capitalist, the 1890’s were out of control and not good for America.

Some russians as well as quite a few other nationalities including the US fought to keep it from becoming slaves. There was a time when that could have been turned without much more effort then they provided. Coming out of a world war most are tired and want "normal" back. There was no taste to push the issue by the west.
But some Russians as well as several others including "new" nations fought very hard against the slave thing.
There was also this thing about Kennedy not liking the government having to borrow money from the Federal Reserve (private bank) and suggesting the Treasury Department could simply make money instead and kick the Federal Reserve to the curb...
See I don't know where the original seed was planted. Was it planted as a wow these gangster guys are shooting up the place with cut down BAR rifles and tommy guns, and it was seen as a way to go after them. I think Capone went away in 31-32, for taxes.....not related to any of the really "bad" things he did if you catch my meaning. He was really a horrid Pres on about every level, if it was not for WWII history would have painted him in a very different light, more along the lines of Johnson I think....so many things FDR gets credit for had nothing to do with him.
