Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Re: Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today we celebrate the Good Rats who helped Arthur make the finest brew. We detest greeen plastic derbys for the fact they represent not what the holiday is about, but nothing more than superficial partying. We have the food in the oven here about to come out, the soda bread is looking nice, and the Smithwick's is darn good and the rebel republican tunes are playing nicely loud.
We few here celebrate our stuff aware that the crown spent many a long year ruining the lives of many an Irish. Yes I am glad mine came here to settle when they did, and teh life in these here hills suits me just fine where me kinfolk settled so many years back, With that ladies, here ya go:

Remind me to post something appropriate on the 12th of June, would you?

Re: Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The Patriot Game always gives me goose bumps! One of my favorites. They don't make them like the Dubliners or Wolftones any longer!

Switchblade, checkout The Blarney Pilgrims - "James Connolly" (Irish Citizen Army).

CONFEDERATE SONG ~ "THE IRISH BRIGADE" www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ot7amDyqbY&feature=related

The Wolftones "The Fighting 69th". www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWvdf_51Iq0&feature=related

We aren't called the fighting Irish for nothing!

Re: Happy St. Patrick's Day!

PolyT, I have so many of those songs on me iPod. Playing the songs all afternoon. The DKM's do the Fighting 69th too, damn good rock n roll...

The boys from Blarney forgot the best part, so here it is:

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EyfSfq-ij34"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EyfSfq-ij34" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

Each time I hear this(I think it's from the H Block CD) it gets me all wild eyed and ready to fight.
Although James Connolly was a communist, he was the one man who set the tone for Irish Independace from the Royal curs. You would like John Connolly 'Green Plastic Derby'. It is a kick ass CD

Veer, the Indira Ghandi incident or something else?

Gandhi was assassinated on Halloween of 1984.

I'm glad that everyone is intensely proud of their heritage today, but I find that there's a convenient disconnect between holiday romanticism and the ugly realities of the Troubles, one side or the other.

Nope, Indira was tampering with election votes or some such and I believe was arrested on June 12th

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not familiar with her career in depth, but it's no surprise that she got nailed for electoral irregularities. Indian politics are a cross between a blind traipse through a minefield and a drunken knife-fight. Actually, that was a brain fart on my part anyway, I meant to type 12th July, not June.
