I'm just getting into precision rifle shooting and I'll be sending in my application for the Mifflin County Sportsman's Association sometime this month, but I'm curious who heads out to this range and if anyone has taken the courses offered by Ghost Firearms. I'm trying to learn the fundamentals now so I don't develop bad habits in the future!

Any pointers for a new guy would be much appreciated and hope to see you all out there!

Towanda PA has a PRS shoot every month in the spring thru fall ...... Maybe it's within driving distance for you, I think it's a 300 yard shoot good for experience and fundamental skills.. Good luck

Yeah it's about 3 hours from me but that's nothing for a good recurring match each month. I'm still figuring out my optics setup and once that's locked in I'll start hitting the range and practicing

I just did their long range 1 course in March. It was fun, seemed pretty well done. They cover the fundamentals with a short lecture and then take you through 100-1000 yards. If you have specific questions reply here or PM me.

As far as that range, it’s a nice spot. The steel was mostly set up by Ghost, but it sounds like there may be one or two steel targets that are there year round (at least at 1000 yards). I haven’t been there outside of the Ghost class yet but plan to go in the next few weeks when I have time.

If you're worried about fundamentals do a class to refresh the basics, but don't do it with a fly by night company. You could also do the online training Frank has here. If you can't find something local and want hands on, your could take his classes if they have not filled up. You could also try to get into a K&M or Altus/Core PRS based location and take a class.

A different path may be benchrest since the 1k BR class at Williamport is just up the road from you and you can get 600 and 1k experience. Granted it's not PRS but I guarantee you will walk away learning a lot. You might even be able to access that range for training as well. Ridgeway is a haul but another 1k BR. They might have options too and they do have the benchrest silhouette matches which look fun, so you might be able to practice there too. Closest PRS is probably Peacemaker, off 81 west of Inwood. I can't honestly recommend a class there after the one I took, but you can go try out a match there when they start back up on the spring. There's apps with all of the nearby ranges. I now of 2 1k ranges in WV over never Clarksburg / Fairmont., both BR but they do other shoots as well. I think there is a 600 or 1k on the edge of Ohio and another 600k or 1k in Delaware.

Mason Dixon PRS shoots 10-12 matches a year plus a finale between New Holland Rifle Club and Mayberry Game Protection in Westminster, MD. Western OH has a similar setup as well at Southington Off-road/Hunt Club and now Rockland Precision in Kennerdell, PA. Not sure how far either of those will be for you but all should be within reasonable driving distance.

Yeah I decided to not take that course offered by Ghost. I've been running through the online training for a while and now that Frank is going to be running courses at Treadproof with Marc I'm going to sign up for one of their session since I've wanted to take it for a while.
