Today, at the rang I was talking to a guy about loads for .308 Win, and he was saying he was getting good results with Wolf brand of primers ! (he look to be into accuracy) I have only seen Wolf ammo as plinking ammo. And assume, and yes I know what they say about assuming anything !

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I used wolf primers in my 300 WM with great results. The only reason for doing so was the shortage of primers last year. A friend had a few thousand so I tried them I was pleasantly surprised, haven't had a problem! And they had great chronograph readings at the range as well, better than the CCI's I was using with the same load may have got lucky?

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I get good SD and ES with them.

The downside is they vary on width and run wide causing me to take some extra time on the seating step. I have had a few dud primers too, upon disassembly I found no priming compound in one, and the others just didn't go.

The plus side is they can take up the slack if your pockets are starting to get loose.

I'd rather use Rem 7.5s or BR2's or CCI 200's for simplicity.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I've been using Wolf SRM in 5.56/223 with TAC loads and LR in 308 with Varget with good results.
No failures. I like them.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

Wolf brand primers..... Is that the same company that makes Wolf brand chili? (Sorry, couldln't help myself)

Bought several thousand last year and haven't had a chance to try them out. If they go in anything, it will probably be some once fired LC 223 brass. As long as I've got plenty of CCI and Federal primers, I'll keep using those and put the Wolf primers in reserve...for all the reasons stated in this thread.

Just my .02 worth.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

Lots of guys would not have considered Wolf primers, until Obama got elected, and then there was a primer shortage.

Once they tried Wolf primers, they found out that they work like all the other primer brands.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I have a case of QQSRM (i think) that I haven't cracked open yet. Trying to finish off these old federal primers first. I hear pretty good things about them, truth be told this is the first thread I've read that mentioned FTF's or irregular cup sizes.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

Wolf are in fact made in Russia. You will find many use these in NRA high power matches. Chrono. numbers are often as good or better than competing brands and they are cheaper. They are slightly larger in diameter than U.S. Primers so make sure you seat them fully or you will get a misfire. Regards Bill

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

If you are piercing primers consider the magnum Wolf primers. They have a thicker cup and same primer compound and volume as the regular Wolf primer.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I have used over 2000 of the Wolf SRM primers in my 6.8 and .223 loads. I have had two out of 2000 that FTF, but other than that, they have given me the most accurate loads I've gotten with the 6.8.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I am with Astro - I bought them because of the primer shortage & I have been 100% happy with them. I will continue to use them... no reason to change. They are readily available & the load that I use them with are incredibly accurate.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

It was all IPSC shooters could get during the Obama gun surge two years ago. I haven't been able to tell any difference between them and Winchesters.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I worked up a load for a friends .223 and have been very pleased with the accuracy so far. The only problem I've had with them is the primer cup seems to be belled out slightly. Almost has a small lip outwards. No problem if all of the military crimp has been remove and a nice large chamfer is there to guide it in.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

I had an issue with large mag wolf primers. I bought 5000 a while back when they were all I could get a hold of. I have only loaded 40 of them so far. There was a noticable split second delay where I could hear the pin drop before the gun fired. These were in my 300wm using R22. I fired a few rounds of two different factory loads and they were an instant bang. I switched back to the wolf primed rounds and same slight delay so I know it was not the pin hanging.
I have not done any other loads with them yet. From all the good reviews I am guessing I just got an odd batch.

Re: Has anybody tried Wolf brand primers??

15,000+ large pistol primers from Wolf used in .45 acp with no issues. I have 5,000 large rifle in reserve. But I can't see any issues with them either.
over 8,000 rounds of the .45's fired so far with not a single problem. Shortage of any other brands made them the purchase of choice.
