Has anyone actually gotten their hands on the new Lyman Cyclone Case Dryer?

My backorder at MidwayUSA has been running for weeks now. I ordered it because the sale price was awesome and the wife gets tired of the oven being used more for drying brass than baking.

MidwayUSA says expected overdue, OpticsPlanet says it ships in 1 - 3 months, Cabelas says it will ship in 2-3 weeks, and the Lyman site simply says temporarily out of stock.

Does anyone actually have one of these?

Not really. I just put my wet brass (partially dried in a towel, ala bowling ball method) in a cheap aluminum cake sheet pan ($8 at the Smart & Final restaurant supply section) and throw them in the oven on "warm" (which for my oven equates to 170*). I crack the door with a potholder, and after 20 mins shut the oven off. By the time they cool down, they're dry as a bone. Then into the AMP, FL sized and then the Giraud trimmer. Brass prep done.

This is tedious and I wouldn’t recommend anyone do it, but I’ve been known to anneal my brass straight out of the tumbler. Takes care of the drying right there on the spot. Otherwise, I use a dryer I made out of an ammo can, a light bulb and an axial fan

Any details on the ammo can dryer?

I was thinking about using a convection style industrial toaster oven but it seems like overkill for case drying.

I'm not sure if my old house wiring is very good so I try to limit my amps too.

It’s a DIY project I did back in 2009. Suasponte on here actually came up with the original idea. You take an ammo can, cut a hole for a lightbulb and fixture to fit through, as well as a small hole to run a wire to an axial fan. You mount the fan and then make yourself a screen shelf that goes above the light and fan. Wet brass sits up there, you turn on the light and fan, and close and latch the lid. Does a really good job of drying brass. Mind you, when this was conceived, SS brass tumbling had just started and there were no commercially made products like we see today. But if you’re bored one day and want to make something cool, I say make one of these.

So I got the chance to try mine. Works pretty good. I like the fact that I dont have to use the warning drawer anymore and get the stink eye from the wife. You do need to make sure that you shake out the water thoroughly. Over all works as advertised.

Got mine today as well. Haven't had a chance to use yet.

For shaking out the water, I use an old t-shirt. Rolling them around inside it and shaking them about does it for me.

Thanks for the update.

I just lay my brass out on a towel and turn a fan on it overnight, in the hot garage this time of year, or in the living room in the winter.
I used to dry it in the oven, but it tarnishes it, even on the lowest setting.
