Has anyone dealt with FN for warranty UPDATE

I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with FN service/repair recently? I do remember someone who had broken their bolt on their SPR action...although that's been awhile.

I recently noticed there are imperfections in the bore near the crown on my FN SPR. There like scratches, but it is a raised surface instead of being gouged. It also appears that the imperfections have been chromed over...Almost like something was in the bore while being plated? The imperfection runs through the land and over the rifling...which seems odd. If it was just a scratch or gouge, I figured it would have just gouged the high part of the rifling.

This one has me scratching my head. I tried to take pictures, but I couldn't get the camera focused enough.

I sent it to FN today. Hopefully, it won't take too long to fix.

Kind regards,
Jared

Re: Has anyone dealt with FN for warranty/repair?

I sent them back my FN A3-G. Flaking in the crome line Bbl.
It took 8 months to get a new one back!

But, they were changing plants. So, your's may not take so long.

The guy I talk to was Bob in PR. They say he is no longer their.
But, other than the wait. The CS was good, no probs.

BTW......The new one shot sub. MOA. And had no probs. with Flaking.

Thanks for the response! It's nice to hear they stand behind their product. As for wait times, I agree eight months is a long time.

Re: Has anyone dealt with FN for warranty/repair?

I sent mine in recently because the groups opened up....a LOT! 3"@200 yards.

I sent it in a soft case, inside a heavy duty box. They shipped my soft case back within 4 days. Rifle was back in hand within 3 weeks. I could see they recut the chamfer where the bore breaks out to the crown. It came back with a test target fired at 50 yards...basically a slightly peanut shaped one hole group - 3 rounds. They also took the liberty of replacing my light trigger spring with a stiff OEM one, and re-epoxied the adjuster nuts. They sent a postcard with service number and passcode so I could check current status, which was updated regularly. Overall, a good experience. They left the recut chamfer bare though, which irked me. A few applications of cold blue blended it right in - but it would have been really top notch had they "dipped the tip" in parkerizing solution to refinish it.

Re: Has anyone dealt with FN for warranty/repair?

FNH has changed the Customer Service department recently. Your call will now be answered at the Customer Service Center in Arnold, MO, where the rifle will be shipped to and where the work will be done. 800-635-1321 or go to: http://www.fnhusa.com/le/customer.asp

FNH stands behind their products and will honor any issues with workmanship and quality. FNH has all SPRs in inventory, so if the fix is a replacement, it can happen very quickly, not the eight months that Lobo referred to. We were out of inventory when his rifle was in for repair. If the rifle is no longer made, such as an SPR-A4, the replacement will be a similar rifle such as an SPR-A5. Same goes for PBRs, which are replaced by TSRs.

Be forewarned, as a manufacturer, we cannot return a rifle that does meet our factory specs for safety. So if you have a light or modified trigger, safety or striker assembly, or after market trigger installed, the shop will replace it and return it to factory specs. (3.5-4.0 lbs for SPR) If you have an aftermarket trigger, it is usually returned with the rifle, but in a bag or box, not installed. The shop may charge you for those extra parts. This is what Turbo experienced. From a liability stand point, there is no way around that one.

Communication is key with any Customer Service interaction. Let the Customer Service Representative know exactly what your problem or concern is and what your expectations are. FNH does not want unhappy customers, no company does. FNH will do all it can to make you a happy FN owner. They will likely ask you to send it in (the entire rifle), once it arrives at the shop, it will be evaluated and you will be informed either through a phone call or the card in the mail what your options are. The card will give you information that you can use to track the progress and give you a Customer Service number that you can reference if you call back.

Hope this helps.

Re: Has anyone dealt with FN for warranty/repair?

I received a new rifle from FN Herstal yesterday.

The whole process took about a month, which in the days of corporate chaos, is pretty fast. They replaced the rifle with an A5 model since they do not make the A2(McMillian A4) any longer. Although, the stock is a little different, I'm sure I'll grow to like it. Fit and finish on the rifle is nicely done and something I would expect from FN.

I want to publicly thank Mr. Ben Voss (Action Guy) for all the help he has provided me during the past month. He answered my many questions, and did so eagerly. He's the real deal when it comes to the long range shooting community, by that, I mean he cares about the products that FN puts out. He's not just some guy who answers the telephone and works for a paycheck. He is an asset to this board and I'm glad he's here.

Kind regards,
Jared
