Has anyone tried the Midway USA Sniper's Drag Bag?

I'm looking for a soft case long enough and wide enough to fit my TRG42 with muzzle brake and NF scope. Probably need at least 52" long and 11-12 wide. I would mainly be using it to transport to and from the range, not really to "drag". I know there are several very nice cases out there in the $200+ range, but they are probably a bit more than I care to spend. Any opinions on the Midway case? Others I should consider?

I have two and the work great. Zipper pull came off of one but it replaced it with parachute cord. I transport both my 20" AR 308 w/ NF and 22" AR15 with G2DMR. Bag gets heavy fast.

They are decently rugged except the pulls as noted above but para cord worked for me. Also the nose cone was super annoying so i used para cord to secure that as well. There may be thing that i am missing about more expensive bags, but none that i notice/can think of

My experience also, the pulls are weak and they nose fits loosely. On the positive side its priced low compared to others and offers a lot of storage space.

It's ok. I cut the stupid nose thing off, and of course the pulls fairly jumped off the zippers. Mine has a few holes from contact with something or other, a fact that surprises me as I'm pretty gentle with it. Some of the internal snaps have failed.

I'd likely do it again if I needed another, but know this is not a high quality bag. For recreational or light duty use, it's fine.

For the price it will get the job done, especially considering the longer bags are up there in price. Just dont use any of the other pockets, as it will feel like toting a seabag around.

i went with a drag bag by ncstar on amazon. like you i didn't want to spend much and didn't plan on abusing the bag. It's about the same price and I've had no issues with any zippers. it's not quite a year old yet, but it's been to the range several times. Holding up strong so far

Very nice for the price. I use mine to carry back and forth to the range, and not as a drag bag. Plenty of pockets to keep all my extra stuff inside (suppressor, bipod, rangefinder, ammo, etc). The string zipper pulls do come off instantly, but 550 looks cooler anyway. This drag bag along with the Midway shooting mat have been two items that I used a lot, and both can be found on sale quite often.

Good bag for the price. Get some para cord because the zipper pulls are the first to fall off.
I use a 52" bag for my Sako TRG 22 with 28" barrel.

I purchased an OD 56" Midway Drag Bag last year and have used it one time It's an excellent bag for the $$ - I paid $75.00 plus shipping which isn't too bad.

I drag mine in and out of the truck. The first one I received the snaps on the zipper flap pulled out right out of the box. Midway made it right and sent a new one, return shipping included. The replacement is good. Just as the rest have reported, 550 cord zipper pulls and cut the floppy nose cone off.

Same as the others. Replaced zipper pulls with hand made paracord pulls (the knotted up type). Bag easilty carries my rifle, spotting scope, tripod, ammo, tools, TAB shooting mat, rubber ground mat rolled up and a Snickers bar. Can't be the price for range use.

My dad has one that he carries a 24" heavy contour AR and a 26" heavy varmint bolt and other random stuff.
The thing weighs a ton! I keep waiting for him to throw his back out putting it in the truck.
The bags are really heavy by themselves and easy to overload, but they are an inexpensive option for a decent bag with good protection.

On another note, I really like Midway's AR bags. They're light and tough enough for my uses.

I also have one of the Midway dragbags. I use it to carry my F-TR rifles to and from the range, no real hard use. No problem fitting 26 inch barreled, tactical style stocked rifle with a large objective scope in the bag. I carry my chamber flags, scoring clipboard, small towels, mirage shield, and a pile of other small items in the outside pockets. I did cut off the nose cone on my bag, and some of the zipper pulls did come off quite easily.
For the price, I would say it is a good buy for everyday use.

I've used one for a couple of years and other than the z-pulls it's held up well. I keep zip ties in the trucks and that's what ended up on the Midway case. They are well padded and so far the stitching has held up. The other side is that they are entirely impractical as a two gun case as noted by gyro. Two fifteen plus pound rifles, various opticals, a couple of hundred rounds of ammo, a bipod and other accoutrements and you don't need wheels you need a caisson with a brace of mules. My case is the long one and my 26" FN SPR just fits but I think the current 56" bag is longer.

I have two ofthe MW 52 inch bags for 8 or 9 years, I retied the pull cords when they were new. I just picked up a 60 inck peacekeeper for my long 300 win mag. it looks good too but just got it yesterday, will do a review later after some use.

I got one a few months ago and they seem to have made improvements based on user feedback as the complaints I have read about do not apply to my bag. The zipper pulls are a different design and the nose cone is sewn on now. That is just what I have noticed, but they may have made more improvements that would be noticeable when comparing to an older bag.

Like a bunch of other posters all my pull tabs came off, one of the zippers broke and can't be fixed by any way I can see. I used paracord to make new pulls and cut the nose cone off as well as cut out the backpack straps to make it lighter. It's okay for the price and I've been using mine for 3-4 years for 3-Gun and long range. The material has held up okay but the zippers and pulls are trash. Plus why do they even make it a "Drag-Bag" who in the world would be dragging it around? I'm sure no military sniper is using them. We just need a good quality rifle bag for larger rifles with the handle in the right place so the barrels don't drag on the ground when being carrier. The handles are too far back as well so it's off balance. Most of the time I carry it on my shoulder like a ladder.

I agree with Fried Chicken, the handles are too far back. I have two, had the zipper pull problem with the first and did some seeing reinforcement with the second to fix it. For the money, they are very worth it. The interior straps are worthless, wrong positions and can't really be tightened enough to do any good. But overall they make for a good heavy duty gun case.

First one zippers pulls came off, replaced with paracord....second one i bought i cut off all the pulls and replaced with paracord.
Other than that small detail they work great!

Probably all true, but I think many of us have a tendency to spend more than is necessary for our actual task at hand. I'm saying this in general about the "buy once cry once" theory, rather than specifically about this item. Just because a product is made of a more durable material doesn't necessarily mean it is better suited for the task. If someone marketed titanium handled toothbrushes with machined inserts for replaceable heads, it would certainly be "better" than plastic, but not really more effective at cleaning teeth.

I'm buying a $195 , well engineered and constructed, padded gun case. That I expect to protect a rifle and optics worth $6K.

To me that's not excessive it's good sense. NOT trying to be an asshole or argumentative, as I do agree with your point. But not as it applies here.

At 63 years old I have had far more buyers remorse, angst , whatever You wish to call it...over poor quality, bargain items, than I EVER had with the "Buy once/Cry once" items.

Quality hand tools, reloading gear, rifle optics, spotting scopes, bino's, camera gear, motorcycle gear, to name a few.

That's why I added the caveat that I was speaking in general, not about the Triad vs Midway case. I'm sure you've seen some of the products on the market today that are ridiculously overbuilt and over engineered for their intended use. I've bought more than a few of them myself.

as others have said, the zipper pull came off mine pretty quick and was replaced with 550 cord. the nose fits loose and was secured with a biner. other than that for the money it has held up quite well and does what i need it to do.

I posted a review on midway and gave it a not so favorable rating... but they edited much of it.

Like others, the pulls came off, but with mine there were two or three snaps that were damaged during manufacture. After about a hour I finely got them unclasped with some careful prying with tools.

I took the nose cone off as I am not dragging my bag... or so I thought. The shoulder straps are useless unless you walk with baby steps its going to be slapping the backs of your legs (I am 5’11”) so those also came off and I started using the carry strap. That led to me putting the bag through a door window as it swung under the weight of 30 pounds of two rifles... yeah, I fault, I know. After about a year one of the connections broke on the strap and it all came crashing down on the asphalt. Fortunately tactical rifles are tough and nothing was damaged. All this may led to the question of why don’t I use the carry handles. The answer, like many copies of good products if thought is not put into the design the finished product may have the same features but fail in how they work. The handle is not located far enough forward there by the bag living up to its name and dragging the muzzle end on the ground unless one assumes a monkey carry posture. Sure, a light hunting rifle that weighs 10 pounds or less will not be much of an issue but two full sized tactical rifles... So IMO it’s a great two rifle case for transport in an auto but beyond that, not so much. I do feel it was worth the 40 or so dollars I paid on “special pricing”...

Haven't tried the Midway ones but I have a Voodoo Tactical one that I picked up for $60 that is really nice, lots of room with many pockets and very rugged. I was orgionaly gonna go with the midway one but I got a good deal on this one.

What is the allure of the more expensive bags over going to a pelican type case? I just don't see the point in spending 200 bucks on a soft case. I can toss my pelicans in the bed of the truck without a worry in the world and if it rains so what, theyre water proof.

I have a two of these and like everyone else the zippers broke on mine as well. First time I unzipped the bags the plastic broke so I just tied on 550 chord. I only use mine for traveling in the car and they work great at that for the price. Wait for one of the sales then they are a great deal.

Im not trying to be a smartass, just genuinely trying to understand the allure of these drag bags if youre not a sniper actually dragging your gear behind you. The cheaper midway bag I can see because well, its less than half the cost of a pelican but these bags that are 200+ are the same cost as a pelican. Granted I cant carry all the other shooting junk in them but that's what my range bag I for anyway. I wouldn't want to carry my guns and all my gear at the same time, Id throw my dang back out.

It's all about the quest for a perfect bag. Like women and their purses, we're guys and and our gun bags. The drag bag is a great deal. Will I be dragging it on the ground? He'll no, neither will 98% of the people who buy them. They are a great deal on a heavy duty padded bag with lots of pocket,handles,padded divide, fairly heavy duty zippers etc. About the zippers, we keep mentioning the zipper pulls breaking, we should be more clear. The zippers have a little loop of cord through them with a feeble bit of plastic crimping the ends together serving as a knot. Right about the time your are going out the door or packing up at the range, you pull on the crimp instead off the cord and it falls apart! You swear d#*m it! Call it a piece of junk and write about it. I did! In reality, the zipper is just fine. It only needs a little piece of string, cord, shoelace or whatever tied and knotted back on. Not the end of the world, but still pisses you off. The zipper itself is pretty smooth and about the right size for a bag like this. If you compare the bag to what you can get for the same money at your chain sporting stores, it's a steal. I don't pack two rifles around it although you could. Tactical scopes have big knob and that makes them a bit wide. It does fit a tact rifle and a tact shotgun or traditional rifle good though. I carry a $3700 rifle in it and don't worry about it. I have several and prefer them to Pelican style boxes. It easy to put two of the drag bags on the floorboard in the back seat. Try that with two big boxes. They either cut/snag your seats all to heck or they slide and bang around. Same in the back of the truck, if you don't bind them down, you'll hear them sliding around all the way to the range and back. I love the theory and look of a nice pelican box with nicely cut out foam and everything in its place nice a pretty but it doesn't lend itself very well to regular use. By the time you bang your way through the house scratching up the walls and doors as you try sneak thru to go shoot, you'll curse it and wish you had something more practical. Save them for showing to your buddies at work who don't have one. Bottom line.....midway bag ....$70 + $2 for zipper cord = money well spent.
