Nightforce NXS 8-32x56, Vortex Razor gen 2 4.5-27x56 (same price range)

Steiner TSXi 5-25x56, Bushnell XRS24.5-30x50 (same price range)

Can I get some insight on the better option? Will go on my Tikka Tac A1, shooting to 1200-1300 yards

Okay, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

1) I am a NF fan, and dealer. We also sell Vortex. NXS 8-32x would not have made any short list I were to have come up with.

2) Razor... lots of experienced users. The scope does well, as long as you are not under pressure. Bench, prone, all good. Great scope.

3) #1 and #2 have basically nothing in common, other than price. Will you ever use > 25x ? Are you sure ? I was working yesterday with a Cadex customer who shoots 1.7 miles, and he is building a new 36" .408 cal rifle. His scope is 5-25x. If you are going to use > 25x, then you should look at the ATACR 7-35x. Yes, and yikes, it is a whole lot more money than the NXS.

4) back to #1: NXS has some great scopes. I just would want you to evaluate whether you need 32x or 25x. if you do, you should spend the money on the ATACR. It is a world changing scope in that range, but I am firm believer that few of us really need >25x, due to a number of factors.

5) Steiner v. Bushnell. Struggling here. Yes bias will influence me here, and now is where I get into trouble: It is hard to find, in 2018, a bad Steiner scope in the P-T-M lines. Not there. There is good, better and great. Yes, some issues in the past, but not today. Only issue today is can you get the Steiner scope you want (availability) and is it competitively priced. For P4Xi and T5Xi, mostly. M5Xi and M6Xi, price to value is a little high. For Bushnell, it is the opposite of Steiner. (again, my view) It is hard to find a really good Bushnell. I have not see the PRO, and I am hoping. Elite Tactical is a mixed bag.

Okay, enough of me. I think your assessment is too focused on cost. Think about what you will shoot, how you will shoot, and what reticle you like, love, hate, then go back and re-evaluate. I think of scopes like shoes. There are shoes for work, for weddings, for running, golf and for hiking. Same with scopes. Then, you have to try them on, and that is the subjective part. Every scope feels and looks different to each person. I just think you are throwing ideas against the wall based upon a price criteria. I mean, we all have price considerations, but what you have chosen to compare... are only similar in cost.

don't throw shoes... And yes, I have customers who wish I would shutup and just sell them something, but my passion is in scopes and barrels.

I have an NF NXS 8-32X56 on my AIAW with the MOAR-T reticle and really like it. But only at know distances at my range. I also have a NF ATACR 5-25X56 with the MOAR-T reticle on my LaRue TOBR. I'd recommend that over the NF 8-32X56 scope.

If you want a NF then go with an ATACR.
NF ATACR vs Razor. Close call; I’d pick the NF one week and the Razor the next. Really comes to which do you like and what scope has the reticle you want/like.
Steiner T over Bushnell b/c of turrets for me.

Thank you all. It currently has Leupold MK4, that I plan to put on my hunting rifle, and this one will be a dedicated range gun. Unfortunately my lifestyle comes with a budget, but Im a firm believer in the buy once cry once. Is the ATACR $600 better than the Vortex?

Buy what you can afford and don’t go into debt for it. If Vortex is in your budget then it’s a great scope. Is the ATACR worth the extra $600? To me yes, if it’s within my budget. You can also buy a used ATACR from here and save a few hundred bucks.

Thank you. I pay cash for everything, so it will be in my budget just might be an extra month. I think I will give the ATACR a go!!

No. The ONLY thing that ATACR has going for it over the vortex is weight. The Reticle in the Razor is also light years beyond the shitty NF reticles.

I would scratch the 8-32x nightforce because of the lack of elevation compared to the other nxs offerings. For what you are comparing, I would decide if you want first or second focal plane before going any further.

I am a huge NF fan, especially the ATACR stuff. I would not try to dissuade you from a 5-25 or the 7-35. However, the SHV F1 4-14 is dramatically less, and may do what you want. I have used mine on everything from a .22 to a 300WM, and it was good at all of it. Might not be my one and only NF pick, but they go for less then a grand in the classifieds section, and they really are good. There are some drawbacks to them, but they are actually the old NXS 3-15 F1, in slightly different form. That scope was widely considered a top choice for a long time, and still has a bit of a cult following. Cult may be a bit strong, but you get my drift, I'm sure.
