Headspace

Got a lilja on the way for my 457 mtr prs22 setup.
Any recommendations on starting headspace to test with? Lilja says try 42 thou then 43 and go from there.

Only shooting match ammo through the rifle, sk lr match, center x, tenex etc

Would love to know if the lilja shoots better than the MTR stock barrel. I felt the MTR stock barrel was really good and wasn't sure why I'd replace it.

Mine is also very accurate but also extremely picky

Cz 457, stock barrels. Shoot sk and lapua. I started at 43 thou, went to 42. Shoots great, fliers have vanished.. tempted to try 41 just to play.. My dad's is at 43.
Both measured 47 from factory.

Eley doesn't shoot as good but I've read it needs smaller headspace.

What kind of groups you producing at 50 and 100

Last time I shot groups was at 100. Off a bench Rifle match 10 shot groups anywhere from 0.6" to 1.5" depending on lot/wind/luck. Plenty good for nrl22/x.
From stock 457 provarmint I bedded it, headspaced it then switched to krg bravo. Little improvements each time. Groups shrunk but most of all the random shots low or high went away.

How are you measuring headspace? Do you have a specific set of different gauges? Also how did you reduce the headspace - shim on the bolt or the barrel?

Shims on the bolt. 001 and 002 ones from McMaster Carr. Measuring with a depth gauge just like how Lilja explains on their website
