Please, oh please let this become law. I can buy a gun using the instant background check, but it takes nine months of waiting to buy a muffler for the firearm. I'd like to get a suppressor, but simply cannot endure the wait. Its beyond asinine.

If you want one get one. In about 6 months the wait times will probably be at all time or near all time lows. Due to 41F AND the silencer industry making us believe HPA would pass ASAP suppressor sales are down a lot some reports saying almost 75%. SilencerCo laid off 1/2 their work force in February. Reports from SHOT have been that orders were down over 50%.
By not getting what you want you are letting Obama control you still. His plan is working and may in fact bankrupt a couple companies.
I Don't understand the bitching and whining about the wait. Fuck you wait every year for Christmas don't you, how about your Birthday. Some of you have been whining so long you could have been through the process multiple times by now.
I find that those bitching the most about HPA passing are those that stand on the sidelines and want everyone else to do the work. Get involved and call/write your representatives.
Some reports say that for this year at least the NRA is more concerned with getting an national CCW reciprocity bill passed. If you think about it that makes a little sense, CCW will affect more people.

The current wait time is right at seven months. That is about what is has been give or take. If you want a can, get one. If you are waiting on congress to do something........well, you know how that goes.

I don't own a suppressor. I would love to own one. It's not the wait, I refuse to give the .gov another tax. I refuse to give them a $200 tax, especially for a 7-9 month process that should take five minutes. When the tax goes away, I'll buy a suppressor. Until then, I'll do without.

^ The tax was designed to discourage ownership of NFA items. Think of it this way, you would be paying a tax that many in the federal gov would rather you not pay.

I Emailed each of my Representative and Congressman about the Hearing Protection act bill (S.59) each of them positively responded to my request by either Email or letter. I highly recommend everyone to do this and contact the politicians. We have a few years to get some things to go the RIGHT direction and sitting quietly will not get much done.

MtnCreek said it best. The tax is meant to discourage ownership. If you want one but don't get one because of that then the tax is working.
You own a car right?? You pay gasoline tax every damn time you fill up.
The $200 tax adjusted for inflation should be about $3800. Now that IS discouragement. Obama flirted with the idea of raising it, but in the end knew it wouldn't pass.

You simply cannot endure the 6-8month wait but you are willing to wait for something to get through congress??????:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:.....you seriously need to reconsider your position!

Not necessarily so... before there was nothing, now there is a hope that it may pass with the current administration. My issue is having to wait 7-8 months for a non firearm when I can buy an actual firearm with background check in 10 minutes. That's the idiot part that hopefully gets changed.

Pretty much my thoughts. Why not charge the tax when you get it, not 7 months before? I pay my gas tax when I get gas. I pay income taxes when I get paid (though that may be foolish).
You don't get a tax deduction for last year when your child is born this spring.
I guess I don't understand where the "Representation" is for this "Taxation".

You buy one and then just forget about it when the dealer calls it is like Christmas all over

^This^

We can all justify why we don't do something, the same as we can justify why we do something. Fact is, if you really want one; buy it and file, then forget about it. When you get it and use it, you'll know why you did and not regret it one bit.

It seems like every time that I go out and someone sees and hears me shooting with my suppressor, I get a comment like, "Man, I've always wanted one of those but just don't want to wait that long for it.", or "I'm going to wait for The Trumpinator to make the anti-gun crowd kneel before our awesome power and then they'll be giving them away." Or some other such excuse for inaction on their part.
:^)

I've wanted a can for some time now but I haven't just because the $200 stamp is prohibitive. But then again the $1000 for a can is also prohibitive to me because I'm a broke college graduate. So while if I had the money I'd get one, it has been somewhat of a deterrent for me to get a $250 .22 can as it essentially doubles the price.

I'm just thankful it hasn't been adjusted for inflation. But it sure would be nice to not have the wait nor the tax.

Not to be a dick but you keep over thinking it and I will get in line in front of you AGAIN!!

I am with lash after shooting with a can I don't want to shoot my other rifles that are not threaded. I am saving up for an Omega now just don't tell the banker there are things she does not need to know

Those of you whining about waiting so you don't have to pay the $200 stamp apparently are unaware that, as originally written, the HPA will retroactively refund stamps issued after the bill was introduced. ASA pushed big time for this provision to help with folks on the fence because of the stamp...
