Hey guys,
I recently acquired an LR308. The seller tells me it's new but I'm sure the trigger it has is not factory. I haven't removed it to see who the manufacturer might be. I've only used factory triggers and I really like the way this one breaks.
I was at the range shooting some 150gr. Fed and some 147gr Tula. The Fed ran fine but out of a box of 20rds, 6rds of Tula needed multiple strikes. What I'd like to know is if I install a heavier hammer spring will that change the trigger characteristics? I believe the Russian stuff has heavier primers.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Heavier hammer spring and trigger characteristics?

Most russian stuff I have run across do have a little bit harder primers. I believe that it is probably an ammo issue

Thanks for the reply.
I'd like to be able to shoot whatever is available. If all I can get my hands on is Tula, then I'd like for rifle to be able to work with it.
Thanks.

Re: Heavier hammer spring and trigger characteristics?

A heavier hammer spring will typically cause a heavier trigger pull, since you will be generating more friction (and maybe even some reaction force, depending upon the angles) at the trigger/hammer interface. Personally, I find this to be acceptable if it increases reliability.

Either way, it's pretty easy to change the spring, and pretty easy to change it back if you don't like the results.

Re: Heavier hammer spring and trigger characteristics?

Yeah the trigger pull will require more force in order to equal the force generated striking the firing pin, a give and take relationship. If you like the current trigger pull Id think itd be worth the inconvenience of having multiple strikes on cheap ammo. After putting in a ghost spring in my glock it has trouble firing winchester white box target ammo. I just rerack and try again

Thanks for the reply. Would the heavier hammer spring solve this potential issue or is there something else you would suggest?
