Night Vision Height and angle effect on collimation? Clip ons

Most clip ons are designed for a scope that is 1.5" 0moa. What is then it on optic height and angle before you see problems with zero?

It's hard to find 1.5" 0moa mounts that have a top rail for a radius. I'm getting 2 moa vertical and 2 moa horizantal shift with a lwts in front of a nf 1-8 in a 1.375 20 moa mount.

Fwiw my 30 has a consistent shift of .3 mil high and .3 on the horizon. Oddly enough it is exactly the same with a 0 moa 1.47 Adm recon on a .22 wmr and Larue spr 1.5 on .224.

I ran into the same dilemma when I scored a radius. Iirc Spuhr has a few 0 moa 1.5 mounts with a raptar rail add on. To ease the pain a bit I just went with Nf med rings 1" height and their rap mount, with a yhm .5 extended riser. Lines up great and again .3 shift both ways so it looks to be consistent.

Thats all I got.

Depends on the clipon. We can think of it that each clipon has a "tolerance".

For instance. The UTC-x is 1.31 center. I've used 1.3 up to 1.55 center rings/mounts.

From 1.3 to 1.4 I have no issues, but the 1.55 mount hits a 0.3 mils low.

The PVS-30 works with everything I've tried 1.3 to 1.55.

As to the pitch of the mount and base.

I've run both the UTC and the PVS-30 on a McRee with a 20 MOA scope base and a 0 MOA NV mount with no issues.

And I've also run the UTC and the PVS-30 on a McRee with a 20 moa scope base and a 20 moa nv mount with no issues.

And I've run them on stoners which were all 0 moa ...

If not, check Larue, I thought that had one that was just over 1.5 ...

Thanks for the info. I like the 1.375 height. Just don't like the clip on offset. But maybe that is clip on related and not due to my scope mount.

Like mentioned above by Wig, different clip-ons have different thresholds they can live within. PVS-22s and 27s can be up to 1/4" up or down center axis to center axis with your day scope. I believe they will also tolerate up to 1* of angle offset and still hold within 1MOA of shift from primary optic zero. My 30 seems to be within the same windows while being moved among many different rifle/scope setups when loaned during classes.

The AN/PAS-13G and PVS-30 units that I have owned seemed to tolerate 20 to 30 MOA in the day optic mount just fine. I did not really experiment with heights.

I am switching some rifles over to .885 rings with a Larue non qd 5/8 riser so I get 0moa, 1.5" height and save a few dollars.


I checked the zero on this rig (seekins upper, cheap Nikon 1-4) and with a civilian non laser equipped t50, it was 1.5" low and 3.25" right at 100. I need to use my other t50 and lwts and see what results I get

Most pictures I see with a PVS-30 and a radius up above, the scope is sitting in a LT845 mount.

I have tried the .885 ring with the Larue riser and found the combo to be
slightly low. Switching to .92 Seekins rings created a mount a tad high.

Currently am staying with the .92" because the margjn of offset was less than
.885"

My calipers read .610" when I measured my Larue riser

I'm getting 1.495 when I add .885 and .61 together. I would think that would be close enough.
I have used that conbo in the past but never checked it on paper. Going to do that with all combos now.
