"Bush says that the announcement by Ardern about the ban on sales of gun laws means that people who prior to 3pm were lawfully in possession of semi-automatic assault rifles and other guns “are no longer lawfully in possession” of those weapons.
He urged people to surrender weapons to police.
They are asking people who find themselves unlawfully in possession of the weapon to first contact police online where they will find online forms, contact police, and have the firearms placed into police custody.
For those who do not feel comfortable to do this, police have also set up a phone line for people to call and register with police to surrender their firearm. That number is 0800 311 311"


Bush warns people that once the amnesty period of three weeks is over, people who are still in possession of their MSSA or assault rifle will be breaking the law and “in all likelihood will be prosecuted”. He warns people to take it seriously and to hand in their firearms

New Zealand 'has no idea' how many assault rifles they have in circulation

Ardern has been asked how many assault rifles there are in the country. Ardern says they don’t have a number for this, just as they don’t have a number for how many military-style semi-automatic weapons (MSSAs) are in the country.
The police minister says: “It’s part of the problem. The prime minister gave a figure for the buyback [$100m - $200m], the reason there’s such a large gap is we have no idea. We have an indicative set of numbers around MSSAs.”

New Zealand has one of the worlds lowest murder and violent crime rates. Then a non-resident commits a violent crime on their soil. And for this the residents get punished?
If they could go back in time and pass these regulations prior to the mosque shooting, nothing would have changed.
Good job NZ. Disarming your people right after 50 Muslims are killed on your soil.
Let’s keep an eye on those crime statistics now.

Sadly, it would seem that they are winning a lot of support from a lot of people on social media. Yes, these people are stupid sheeple that cannot think for themselves, but they far outnumber us. That’s a serious problem for the future of the republic. If we don’t somehow start gaining public support then we will lose this battle. I know we talk a lot in here but this is an echo chamber. I think we can all agree that we are lovers of firearms in here and we need not to be convinced of why we have the second amendment. It is up to us to go out and teach others and garner their support. This is how we win, not by donating money to gun orgs, maybe some but not all, not by cheat thumping and talking about war. There may be a time and a place for that but as of right now we are all being labeled terrorist and will lose if we do not sway public opinion.

AOC can go fuck herself with a rusty pair of scissors. It is a travesty that 50 died in the NZ shooting but it is more of a travesty of how NZ got there and what is being done to their natural born citizens now.

I will bet that there is going to be a mass shooting in the US very soon to play off what is happening in NZ.

I can't remember if it was this site or the off road forum I frequent, but someone posted a meme not too long ago that had to do with New Zealand being named the most free country in the world or something along those lines. Guess not kumquat.

I'm getting really tired of the phrase "assault weapon." Those assault words are a product of an assault idea to change public assault opinion into common sense.

In my biased opinion, calling semi-autos "assault weapons" has been the single most effective piece of propaganda grabbers have employed since the clinton ban.

if the criminals still have their guns and nothing can be done to disarm them , i see no reason to worry till they change the laws and the constitution its all talk like a little child stomping his or her feet i want i want i want. you could always move to texas or mexico land is really cheap there .

That is a lot of talk. Think anyone is actually up for it if/when it happens?

Where are the NZ gun owners? Why are they not protesting in the street?

I think gun owners around the world are all the same. We all understand the power in our hands. We do not want it taken away. We trust very few, and with that we are not vocal when we need to be.
Scared that we will be noticed, scared that someone will be watching and taking notes. Scared that we will be put on a "list" and that is how we will loose our guns.

So instead when the shit hits the fan we crawl to the shadows and "lose our guns in a boating accident".

I am 100% sure not one single bullet will be fired in NZ in protest of the new law. People will line up and turn in there guns, because they were told to.

In USA I am not sure it would be much different.

The terrorist in NZ put in writing that this was one of his goals. Rather than unite and tell that piece of shit to fuck off. (He should already be fish food). They fall right into his "trap".

I fear we are doomed, because we will NOT shoot back. It is just a matter of time until the left figure that out.

We will not march on D.C. (mostly because we have jobs to do). The NRA, GOA can not truly represent 6,000,000 gun owners. We need 6,000,000 to march on DC.

I have some of the same concerns. I have read posts on SH saying "there is no way gun owners in the US would give up their weapons" or something similar. One reason the 2nd Amendment is being trampled on is because gun owners DO NOT support one another en mass. The homeowner that owns one semi-auto anything will probably be happy to surrender their weapon. Hunters seem to historically NOT support the 2A. At the end of the day I think there will be a small group that will stand up for themselves and their families and once the dust settles they will be labelled domestic terrorists or nut jobs.

Yep, that is why everyone is afraid to fire the first shot. A group of 20 are nut jobs, a group of 100,000 or even 1,000,000 is not.

In his manifesto he stated that he could have used various different weapons to commit the terrorist attack. Anything from IEDs to poison. He then stated that he chose semi-auto fire arms for the specific reason that they are a political firestorm.
He was hopping the firestorm would lead to the USA and would cause weapons to be banned and in turn cause a civil war in the USA.
He set a political/social trap which so far has not snared the USA but NZ has jumped into.
We will have to wait and see how tight the snare gets.
People like to be told what to do. People actually like having others "over" or "above" them. It makes them feel warm and cozy and safe. As such and going along with my statements above, the average NZ citizen will take the payout and comply.

I am well aware of all that. But its not a trap. Its calculated move, they didn't fall into shit. They exploited a situation.
