hello. I am new here. had to get away from RFC

Well, maybe I've just had one of my posts deleted over on RFC's CZ/BRNO forum? I mentioned going with a Krieger bbl blank on my new CZ457 American, since I hadn't been completely pleased with the accuracy out of the factory bbl. Have been looking for my post in all the threads I could recall posting in, and haven't found it? Hey - remember me confessing to being 67yrs old? - maybe I just forgot where I put that post....I mean, it could've happened.

Whatever, after getting the American's trigger adjusted down to 1.4lbs and torquing the action screws to 30/25 in/lbs, and shooting in slightly warmer temps yesterday (48*F), the rifle was showing some decent results with SK Std+ & Pistol Match out to 129yds. It'd be kind of crazy to give up on a new factory bbl with only 205rds through it. And I was just notified by BSCar that he's got a few more of his 25 MOA rails for the 457 available, so ordered two of them. That'll allow me to mount an Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 on the American, and to put the Mike Ross 12 MOA rail back on the Anschutz 2011 where it belongs... I'm still interested in getting a 457 Varmint MTR, and that's where the 2nd BSCar rail will go - if & when one of the wholesalers where I've listed a MTR on my 'wish list' gets some more of them in stock.

OT a bit but some of the forum politics on these different sites can get very Nazi-sh.

An example is a post I made on the Yellow forum, an airgun forum, about my new Athlon scope. They banned me without warning, deleted my post, didn't send an email stating why, and wouldn't return my emails. I can only assume it was because certain airgun Co's advertising there were affiliated strongly with other optics brands and didn't welcome any competition??!!

Oh well, I didn't like much about that forum anyway, bunch of ass kissers.

Can't say I'm surprised. Used to frequent there, but stopped many years ago due to the Gestapo tactics. I frequent another (dog) forum where you are allowed to recommend a breeder but can't say anything that could be negative, even if it is first hand experience. Incredible!

Tell them you are indexing your barrel by indexing it in 90 degree increments and then cut the extractor groove only after you find the tightest group you then stop the muzzle like Calfee and your looking for match locations.
Tell them you slugged the button rifled barrel to find the exact center of the parallel node and the gun shoots less than 1/8 inch at 50 yards.
Tell them you bought the rifle used and it is engraved "WaterBoy" on one side and "Calfee" on the other.
You will get banned after about 10,000 views.
Let me know if you need more answers to there questions.

You want to go on the rimfire Benchrest or most accurate forum they have.
Tell them you bought the gun in California and the old owner showed you how to find the exact center of the parallel node.
Action is a Di orio Turbo with six o'clock ignition.
Turn on email notifications and hold on.
Tell them the tuner looks like a Roger Von Aherns but says experimental Calfee on the side and it's adjustable.
Don't respond right away and you will get some major players posting.
Tell them it came with 20,000 rounds of Eley machine #6 at 1045 FPS ammo.

I've tried posting photos on RFC that were taken with a Nikon D5000 set to its lowest resolution, and I've always gotten the "file is too large" notification. Maybe I could crop them, but it seems like a PITA after being able to post same photos here & on AccurateShooter.com w/o issue.

flatland1,

The Nikon small format is 3 megapixels (2144 x 1424) and has a approximate file size of 400K. Crop to 800x600 and use JPG compression in the lower 50s which should reduce the file size to 1/10th (low 40s K average). That should work on almost any website. Or you can just host them on another site and use the IMG tags to display them within the post inline.

billmeek,
Thanks for taking the time to explain that. I guess I've just been too lazy to read up how to do that in the Nikon owner's manual. As much as I'd like to share a few photos on RFC from time-to-time, if it's not easy & convenient to do so, I've just let it go. I've shared more photos here on the Hide than on any other site I frequent, and it's mostly because it's so easy to upload them from my hard drive. Like this one, comparing my old Rem 541T to the new 457 American.

I just went over there and some of the best of the best are still posting.
Act like a total newbie and promote your gun as a "Killer"
One of the posters there is a physicist and this stuff will get him explaining things with a lot of calculations.

Your original 2048x1361 image is 526KB in size. Here's the same image scaled to 800x532 and JPG compression set to 50% which then produces a file size of 44KB. When viewed within a web browser, you shouldn't notice a big difference... unless you zoom in on the photo where you'll see pixelation.

Your Nikon manual won't help. You'll need a graphics program to edit the images. I use the open source program GIMP (https://www.gimp.org/) to edit photos. While it is "feature rich" (looks complicated), resizing images is simple. If you need help, private message me via the forums and I'll write out the steps I use to reduce image sizes.

You can crop your photos to save on bytes as well.
I took your photo and narrowed it and took some area off of the top.

Stopped taking that place seriously a little while ago and see it mostly as a place to go for casual browsing once every six months or so. It hit me when a buddy went all out building a RAR and the work he did just seemed to beyond comprehension for the crowd. He literally built the chassis for his gun from billet, turned a barrel from a blank, fit it to the action and threaded it for his can. His post with detailed pictures got some traction over there, but not much. When I later tried my hand at machining by knocking the barrel out of my Savage, turning the barrel profile down, and machining threaded collars and spacers to allow the whole thing to be tensioned under a carbon fiber tube, I posted about it there as almost a troll post. I think the post got five responses, and three of them were my buddy and making fun of each other in an attempt to get banned. It didn’t work. Either the humor was too cerebral for the crowd, or the project was. Now I’ll admit that the humor was as amateurish as my machining skills, but that place ain’t exactly populated by worthy critics of either.

I don't think you will find the best posters on a RAR build. Tensioned barrels by Hoke Kerns have been discussed for years.
Your on the wrong forum.
