    Hey guys,

I am not a AR expert in any way. I know how to put them together and shoot them. That's about all. I need some help with a issue.

I bought a really nice upper a while back from a member here. It is a Vltor MUR receiver, DD barrel, and a KAC URXIII rifle length rail. I've had no problems at all with it so far. However, I was reading and from what I understand, I need a special/very expensive tool to be able to remove this particular rail. Now, I have no reason to take it off other than the fact at some point I will need to remove & clean my gas tube.

Any tips or advice for cleaning the tube out without removing it. Or anybody have a method to remove the rail without the special tool?

    Thanks,

I have installed hundreds of URX forends. They're a great product. I despise having to remove them.

The URX series forends are held in place with an aluminum jam nut and thread locking compound (blue Locktite, if the directions from KAC are followed).

What do we typically use to loosen blue Locktite? Heat. What does heat over 300 degrees F do to the alluminum jam nut? Make it soft and mushy.

Can it be done? Yes. But it may not be pretty if red Locktite or Rocksett was used instead of blue Locktite. Or your jam nut turns to mush and you have to unscrew the entire forend. Regardless, you're going to want a fresh jam nut to reinstall the forend (not cheap).

To sum up, removing a URX for a good reason is a royal pain. To remove a URX to clean a gas tube?!?
