I was trying to load up a few rounds this morning and somehow I managed to put the bullet in the first case way to far. When I tried to use my RCBS Power Puller (plastic hammer) the case head slipped off the chuck before the bullet was fully out of the case and the case is now stuck inside. I tried turning it over and loosening the cap and lightly tapping it on the bench but all that did was push the bullet back into the case. What are my options at this point to get the bullet and case out of the power puller? I am worried about hitting it on the bench upside down with the bullet going back into the case but don't know what else to do. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I tried both with a small washcloth on the bench and without with no success. I am just a little nervous smacking the primer end of the round against the bench. I have everything sitting in the freezer right now hoping the cold will make the case contract some and break the seal.

Leaving it in the freezer while I was at work did the trick. When I got home last night I ran hot water over the puller and 2 whacks later everything came out. Looks like I actually broke the chuck when I went to use it the first time. The lip on one of the pieces is broken off. Once I get a new chuck I will remove the bullet and pop the primer then take a look to see just how bad I damaged the brass if at all.

Skip ordering a new chuck, you don't need it. I have that same inertia puller and threw the chuck away years ago, use the appropriate case holder for the cartridge in place of the chuck. It holds better and you don't have to worry about a 10 cent o-ring breaking and putting your puller out of commission. Just slip the case in the case holder, drop it in the puller and tighten the cap.

Great idea, I never thought of that.

Thanks for the tip. Definitely makes sense and will work better.

Before using a shell holder instead of the supplied chuck, read this: Inertial Bullet Puller Warning - Shooters Forum

Looks like it can be a bad idea. There are a few more incidents of this happening on other reloading forums.
