The game:
3 sighters (total, all taken prior to the FIRST shot for score), then 5 shots for score at 200 yards, 5@300, 5@400, 5@500 and 5@600. All shots are taken on the same target face, which has a 3" 3-point ring, an 8" 2-point ring and a 14" 1-point ring. There is no appreciable time pressure. This is shot on a square range where there isn't a lot of wind, but what wind is there, is tricky, generally coming from 4 o'clock.
This is a 7-match series divided into two classes; factory and custom.
In the past, "factory" has been loosely defined but for next year, it must be BOX STOCK, with an optic and bipod dropped on. My stock TRG42 isn't "factory" because it wears the Sako muzzle brake that wasn't installed out of the box.
So, I need a new rifle.
While a 308 is certainly good to 600 yards, the points spread is sooo close at these matches, I am convinced it would be stupid to choose one.
I am budgeting myself $2000 to buy a suitable rifle (less optics/mounts/bipod).
So far, I am considering:
Savage LRP in 260
Savage FClass in 6.5-284
Tikka T3 Sporter in 260 or 6.5x55 (would need to tool up for 6.5x55)
Any other ideas?
Remember, the rifle can NOT be modified at ALL so it's gotta be a lights out hammer just how it is delivered.
