Hey guys, right now I have a Mcmillan A2 stock (used to think it was a3 until I checked the website)on my Savage. This stock came with the rifle, had it been mine original purchase I would have opted for a stock with adjustment.

Anyway, I am needing some comb adjustment and am torn between buying a removable cheek rest (such as Triad or Tac Ops) or going with a Karsten cheek rest. I am not intimidated by drilling my stock for the Karsten, but am not really sure what the benefits are over a removable rest.

I appreciate your help

Thanks,
Jethro

Re: Help choosing cheek rest

I recently picked up a Triad and its great! Wrap the stock with some vet wrap, then velcro it on. Vet wrap keeps it snug. I personally don't like the feel of the Karsten. Have you felt one yet? Feels chincy to me.

Re: Help choosing cheek rest

I have both the Triad and Karsten. I prefer the triad , but it ony gives you so much lift. If you need more, you need the karsten. That's about it.

Re: Help choosing cheek rest

I have a McMillan with the aluminum cheek piece, and an HS Precision with the Karsten. They all do what they're suppose to and I love them both. The Karsten is the cheaper alternative and very durable. If you want aluminum, some have installed the XLR piece for slightly cheaper.

Re: Help choosing cheek rest

I used the XLR piece on my FN SPR.. only 25$ and some mill/drill press work, pretty simplistic and works like a champ...
