Found this in the garage of a house I bought any one know what it is. I would guess a candle holder.

Unites States Officers' Open Mess, Taipei. Vietnam era? I've seen ashtrays with similar markings but maybe the bottom to an oil lamp or a hookah or something?

That’s what I thought but I think with it being brass and the markings usoom and Taipei it was used on a us boat named taipei

USOOM = Unites States Officers' Open Mess

A bar opened up in Taiwan in January 27, 1953. Had some pretty shaddy dealings within it's walls

Then it was taken over by the US Military to be a true Officer's Mess in 1961.
