So I am almost ready to place an order for one of these scope but need more input. The two scopes are:

IOR 3-18x42 FFP
Premier 3-15x50 FFP

A couple things I am considering:

Do I need the illumination or not?
The MP8 recticles are awsome.
Premier just came out with this scope and will it hold up
Is the cost worth saving or not.

Any suggestion from anyone on here would be great.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

I've got the IOR 3-18x42 FFP. I've notice the reticle is pretty HUGE at 18x. The clicks are pretty close together and I frequently wonder if I'm "off by one" (.1 mil).

I was thinking the new NF FFP clicks might be more pronounced.

I've also been looking at the Premier 3-15x50 FFP, but the clicks look even CLOSER together than the IOR.

Lately I've found myself thinking the 5-25x56mm with the Gen II XR reticle might just be the way to go. The reticle looks pretty fine. Just not sure about the clicks.

That "tool-less" zero adjustment of the Premier is pretty slick. Sure sounds better than the 4 set-screws of the IOR knob.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

I've owned both and honestly as much as I love my premier the IOR is probably the better value if you don't need/want an illuminated ret and aren't obsessed with having the absolute best. You probably will not be able to club as many baby seals with the IOR as the Premier before it loses zero, but the glass on the IOR is terrific, the turrets are pretty good, and the ret is very nice.

Downsides to the IOR is that eye relief is an issue for some because the turret housing is so close to the front ocular (giving you limited ability to adjust it closer to your eye), it tends to vignette a little @ 3-4x power, and it had an issue with some breaking with the initial batch.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

My money? I would buy the Premier over an IOR. The new dual turn knob clicks are perfectly spaced and not very close like the single turn 22 mil.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

I have the MP-8 Dot in a couple of scopes and love it, but having both scopes I would take the Premier all day long. It is built like a tank, it is US made if there would be service issues and it's function has been excellent. The 3-18 FFP has well documented problems, and I say that as an IOR fan, not a basher.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

I like the regular Gen II reticle. Used it in the Premier and a few S&Bs and like it alot.

What is your price range? Seeing as the Nightforce F1 was mentioned I would like to give a that a good recommendation also. I have had one for a couple of months and used it this past weekend at my first match with it and like it alot. It runs about $2290 and comes with rings and a sunshade.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

It seems that everyone is leaning more towards Premier. I have thought about NF but didn't like that it doesn't have enough mils per revolution. Right now I can get a excellent deal for the Premier which will put me right under $2,000. This will be going on a Savage 7mm Rem Mag.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

Thing you have to remember about the Nightforce's knob is that is has a zero stop so you won't get lost into the second revolution and if you do you can just bottom out and start again. Also with a 7mmRM you would be going over two revolutions to 1000. I was concerned about it too but found it to be a non issue.

But if you are set on the Premier then go for it as it's a very nice scope as well. You won't be sorry.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

Mike that is true. I guess you now bring up a good question. Do I get a Premier for about $2000 plus I have to purchase rings.
Or do I purchase a NF for $2229 with rings but no flip cap covers.

Also the NF doesn't have the adjustable illumination intensity.

Re: HELP ME DECIDE.....IOR or Premier

the premier is not going to be 2499 from Scott. It is cheaper than that. I have a 5x25x56 on order with him with the gen 2 xr recticle. It will be my first foray into the ultra premium scope market. I have some of the older zeiss's and stuff but nothing like what I hear these are gonna be like.
