Help with 22lr optic choices

I'm a big believer in buying optics and have no problem if they cost more than the rifle. My Trijicon is crystal clear, needs
no tools to adjust the zero, has zero stops and is 1/8 MOA. It also adjusts down to 9 yards without losing clarity. It is a 5-50 x56
and with all of that power, I can use it as a range finder out past 100 yards. I shoot Field Target which is simulated hunting and
we don't know the distance to target and a separate ranging device is not allowed. Everything on the scope is very refined. It has an
illuminated reticle in red and green but I rarely use it. Someone asked me about clarity when close up. They used fuzz as
a descriptor. Even at 50 power and at 9 yards, you can see the fuzz and the paper texture. The internal subtensions are at a 1:1
when at 40 power. That makes for easy hold over.... windage in my case. I use my DOPE and click up/down. The outside of the
power ring has a square around the 40 power to remind you of that fact. It also has a multiplier scale in the reticle for other
power settings. The internal scale is the semi circle of numbers in the last photo. The one shown is for a 30X scope so it is different
than my RS50 scope. It makes it very easy to do any math in your head. If you buy cheap glass.... you will regret it !!
B&H photo has a30 day test / return drive policy.... I'm not sure how you can go wrong with that.

I run a Kahles 525i on a Bergara B14, and a ZCO 527 on a Rim X custom. If I am going to take the effort to shoot 500 yards with a 22LR, I want to see what is going on out there.
If I scope my 10-22, I run a Leupold VX6 HD 1-6, by design, scope travel limits shots to around 250 yards.
I have a new ZC840 on order, 8 weeks out or so, and I am kind of scratching my head as to WTF I am going to do with it.

Hello hide, just posted in the observation area help needed on a optic for custom 22lr,feedback appreciated and welcomed
If you've lurked around on the Hide at all you should know that many here have zero problem spending almost 10K on a .22
APN.gif

So your question is pretty wide open, best if you put a stick in the ground at a dollar amount, then you should get relevant responses.
But if I have over-stepped and budget is of zero concern here, carry on.

I knew that my primary use was for shooting Field Target with my air rifle. That dictated the 10 yard parallax, 50 power

I looked at a March 8-80 but they stopped making it. :-(

I’m planning on using an Athlon Cronus BTR Gen II, in Mils, on a Vudoo V22 target, and may try some competitions this year, has a lot of features for money, and fine reticle, heard the parallax adjustment works great for under 25yds as well
Im trying to decide on the Cronus or XTRiii for my B14r, hard to decide between the two

I have a vortex Strike Eagle on my B14r and Schmidt and Bender PMII on my RimX. The strike Eagle is a good scope for the money. On bright clear days it’s perfect. I place small targets in the woods along my tree line on my property. The Strike Eagle struggles in the shadows and at dusk. The tracking has been great so far. I also have a NF ATACR 7-35 and it’s a good scope. It also struggles with small targets in the shadows and the turret markings don’t line up throughout the travel in elevation. The SB has the best glass and it makes the small 1/4” to 1/2” targets clear as day. The turrets line up through out the travel in elevation as well. So many good to great scopes out there now. I also have an Athlon BTR 6-24x50 on my Ruger Race rifle. It’s a complete waste. Every time I touch that rifle the zero is off, the turrets don’t line up and the glass while decent isn’t up to Strike Eagle standards so I would just spend my money elsewhere.

Gen 1 or 2 Cronus?
Heard issues with Gen 1 Gen 2 improved turrets from everything I have read

Not it’s the Argos Gen 1. The Cronus may be better or great but the Argos just put me off. I have a Vortex Diamondback tactical as well on another 22 and it’s miles better than the Argos. Just buy the higher up Athlon scope and it seems like you will be ok.

Ok, they’re made in China, the Cronus is made in Japan, only one I’d consider thanks

Hello hide.Recently started shooting 22lr 50-300yds,mainly 100 yds with my son.currently have a Athlon Ares 4.5-30 optic, but these old eyes aint what they used to be.looking for something with more magnification.budget $1200-1700 for the optic, mil or moa is fine,2nd focal plane preferred but not a must, must have a luminated recticle or lit center dot.some of the ones I am researching
Delta Stryker 5-50
Trijicon ten mile 5-50
Nightforce nx8 4-32(little low on power)
Bushnell elite tactical 6-36

Get a sightron Vortex are junk at high power. Nightforce is out of your price range unless you want a used one. Trijicon never even seen one on a comp gun. Bushnell junk . I've played with just about every scope out there kahles is by far the best. Way out of your price point. Sightron is very clear for the money . Any Vortex I've had or seen is just way to blury at power wouldn't recommend any of them.

Take this for what it’s worth.

1. Pick a reticle that fits your discipline. I shoot benchrest at known distances. I prefer fine crosshairs with a target dot.

2. I like very fine adjustment capability and use 1/8 MOA scopes.

3. There is a big difference between SFP and FFP. Figure it out.
4. I love Sightrons. I keep trying news scopes but Sightron 36X, 8-32X and 10-50x work for me.

I like my Sightron SIII 10-50 but I might sell it because I like a fine cross hair in the center instead of the dot, the sightron doesn't have the reticle that I like. I am looking at the March High Master 10-60 with the MTR-3.

Can’t go wrong with Vortex. I just bought a ViperPST 2101 2-10x with the EBR4 MOA reticle for shooting match grade 77gr 556. I absolutely love it. The warranty that vortex gives is really what makes me keep choosing them. Glass isn’t cheap if shit happens

If you want to shoot positional with a 22lr scopes like the ATACR are super heavy (39 Oz) I'm considering a NF NX8 at only (28oz)

I can't say I've even seen one of those at a range. Maybe in someones collection from years past.
I've seen a couple of them at one range I go to, mostly old codgers like myself....... and they seem to work pretty well! But pricey!!! But I'm just fine with my Vortex and Leupold and my Nightforce.

The ones I checked out on Gunbroker and similar sites were in the $800-1500 range, mostly around a thousand. Don't see a lot of them. I never had the good sense to ask the guys to let me look and shoot, they would have let me so double dumb! But always liked the idea of the workings being mostly on the outside.......

How much power are you wanting? How much adjustment are you wanting? Are you looking for a benchrest type scope or tactical type? Most higher power scope have 1/8moa clicks, that means less overall adjustment. I have a NF 12X42 benchrest, but it only has 60 moa of adjustment. Scope today are trending more to the Tactical type with large amount of adjustment and less power. I have Vortex Strike Eagle 5 X 25 on all of my long range 22LR it has 31 mils or 110moa. Have you looked at the high power fixed scopes?
Mark

I am using a Ares etr 4.5-30. Looking for a bit more power or 30x but better glass, shooting 50-300 yds, dont need much adjustment.gun will be mostly bench shooting but no preference on tactical vs bench style, want a variable power though, mil or moa is fine, need a lighted recticle or a lighted center dot
Currently looking at
Delta stryker 5-50
Sightron 10-50
Tract toric 4-30
Nx8 4-32x
Athlon cronos 4.5-29
Problem is all these optics are impossible to find locally to look through

I'll shut up now, if you're considering those optics for 22L.

The most popular FT scope that I've seen is the Sightron S3, model 25003 with the MOA-2 reticle or the FT model with the illuminated MOA-H reticle model 25018 . I think you will find that this scope works just as good as the March at 1/3 the price. I have four of them mounted on my Vudoo, FX Impact, FX Crown, and RAW HM1000 FT guns. They really work well shooting at 100 yards.

i have a march 10-60 HM, on my vudoo

actually just took it off so a friend can play with it

the higher the mag the better at these ranges...its like cheating

eye box is a little tight but segmenting a 22 hole at 100 yards is pretty funny

BrianF,

I looked into a March 8-80x56 but they are no longer made. Yep...It's like cheating!! LoL

I just had my CRONOS and ARES out and remembered why I hate them. They wont focus below 25 yards even at a low power.
My Trijicons are pricey but they focus down to 8.5 yards even at 50 power. They are crystal clear too. Look at the fine paper
hairs on the target and the paper texture.
And my two HELOS are not even mounted to any gun..... I wonder why that is?

I have an Athlon Midas Tac on my Bergara that I started with and it’s a pretty good scope. I really liked the reticle. I got it at a great price as a retired LEO. When I got my Vudoo I went with the Cronus Gen ii and so far it has been great. The glass is clear and both scopes track perfect on the scope tester.
I have a Razor on my 6.5 and to my eyes the Cronus glass is just as good. Now the Razor is a bit more refined but I like the Cronus and the Midas Tac for 500 dollars is pretty good

I was also “disappointed” with the glass in the razor Gen 2 compared to the Cronus.
