So I'm wanting to get a 6.5 Grendel, and will either build a complete rifle, or add just an upper. But definitely not very familiar with the round as a whole. Just was recommended highly for hogs in my area by some close friends that us the round for this purpose. That is the sole purpose for the rifle. My question is do you guys have any recommendations for the pieces for this build, or is it possible to just buy an upper and swap with one of the existing AR platform rifles I currently have? Also, how does this round do in regards to cycling when shot suppressed? I shoot suppressed 100% of the time, and do not plan on changing this. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

I have a BCM Recce rifle that I was hoping to be able to switch back and forth with preferably. Budget wise, I’d prefer to stay under $600, but if there is a much better quality upper out there for more, I’m open minded. Be seen LaRue’s ultimate upper system for $799, and I’m not opposed to that either. Just wanna see what you guys with experience with this round feel like is best for the money.

I’ve got $600 wrapped up in a barrel... Building an upper can be expensive. But, I’d buy it again tomorrow if need be. JP...

Best advice- use an adjustable gas block if you’re going to be switching uppers on a lower, and you’ll want that for suppressed shooting anyway.

Contact Scott at SDRifles.com
He build a great Grendel upper, and stands behind his builds.
I’ve actually witnessed arguably the best gunsmith in the business (runs a little place in KC;)) pick one of Scott’s uppers off a prize table happily.

Like just about every AR, when you suppress it, it will be over-gassed, which doesn't always cause failures, but if nothing else, can cause more wear.
Get an adjustable gas block and you can tune it to meet your needs.
I know most people around here like the really high-end stuff, but for your purposes, I have no doubt that something like one of these from Palmetto State would suffice.

The AR world has so many options that it's hard to narrow it down much.

As mentioned above. It would be easy to recommend JP or any of the other top barrel manufacturers out there but for your stated needs, they are not required. If you are okay with used you could pick up a nice one for a discount or pick up one of the PSA combos for a reasonable price new and enjoy.

Faxon has a nice barrel in a medium weight if you are looking to stay on the lighter side of things. The laRue is nice but I think for the price, you could build something nicer. However, it is turn key and would have better resale value if you chose to unload down the road.

An adjustable gas block is recommended either way so you aren't so over gassed.

If you wanna blast crap at 100-200yds, by all means go cheap, hell get a blackout or SPC and have fun.
If you want a sub-moa rifle capable of taking CXP2 game to 700 or so yards (which is really where a Grendel shines) don’t sell yourself short.
