Hello guys I need some ideas/answers of how to paint my rifle. I found out there 2 main/easy ways to paint your rifle; one using leafs and the other way by just making stripes with spray cans then break it up at the end.
My question is: Which method is the best and what are the advantages and disadvantges of these methods?
Also I saw alot of people starting off with a base coat on their rifles; I get confused here because i found out on the internet that people say that the base coat must be dark (from dark to light colors) then others say lightest color first (from light to dark colors). Which way is the right way, and if both aren't wrong which order makes more sense for you guys???

Thanks in advance for your feedbacks and ideas!!

Re: Help with a Camo Paint Job on my rifle

there is no real wrong way , either light base dark top coats or visa versa, however, you'll get less "bleeding" with the light base and dark on top. there would also be less chance of having to put a second coat on with the lighter base.

i like the lighter base for easier application of the darker top coats, better solid contrasts at further and closer distances to create the optical illusion of being "broken up" and not "blobbed out".

thank you Top Predator, but which method do you use to paint the rifle do you use different leafs in order to create different patterns or do you use just the spray cans by making kinda "stripes"?

I like lightest to darkest and then final layer is done with a light grey jusst enough to fog the surface over softening the boundaries between the colors.

i don't use leaves, instead i use a small horsehair brush to put the pattern on.

nothing wrong with using leaves, many moons it did, then went to plastic flora found at a craft store. they are resuable and stay rigid enough not to get "all up in the paint"

I helped a buddy do his AR using the sponge method and it looks pretty bad ass. Haven't been able to try it out yet but it does a pretty good job of breaking it up.

if you want a specific pattern, invest in a stencil kit from Buldog Arms. I use them quite a bit.

It is always easier to cover up light colors with darker ones.
Takes more paint to color the dark with the lighter.
