So I'm sure this has been asked before but I cant seem to find anything using the search button but here it goes. Today me and a buddy went to shoot my ar I just finished up at 500 yards. so I sighted it in at 100 yards and I couldn't get a group for nothing. I was currently using a ADM recon mount with a leupold mark 4 3.5-10x40 M3 turrets. groups were like 3-4 moa at 100 yards. I followed the directions for the ADM mount and its hard as hell to put on and off. so I ditched the mount and went with fixed rings. This AR is only going to be used as a scoped rifle, no buis or anything like that. my question is can I run it with these rings being that close to the hand guard? or is it recommended to use a certain height? I get a great cheek weld with this current set up. Thanks guys.

Cheek weld is very personal. I like my cheek bone to rest on top of my stock. With my set up I need 1.5" from the top of the Picatinny rail to the center of the scope tube ( center of the scope ring ). If yours is comfortable it looks like a good set up. It looks like yours measures about 1 inch which is pretty low. Also like wareagle700 stated most scopes on ARs align up close to the end of the charging handle for correct head placement with correct eye distance to scope. Take note of how mine is in the photo. My scope is a Bushnell AR/223 with 4.5-18x40mm with tactical turrets which are returnable as a NF.

PS: If you plan on shooting long range you might want to look into "Custom Turret Labels" which I have on my elevation turret. I see you have an offset bubble level which I use also. ( good idea ). I have mine attached to the rail just behind the rear scope ring. I don't have room for it on the scope tube because I use a light for hunting at night.
My scope is not bent the photo is distorted.

Your Ar barrel may only be capable to group 3/4" to 1" at 100 yds. Are you shooting factory or reloaded bullets? I reload and my White Oak Armament barrel is very accurate and groups less than 1/2" at 100 yds.

Thanks a lot for the for the replies everyone. Yeah I'll mess with the scope a little I think it needs to go forward as well a little. I was going to reload up some 75-77 grain smk's with varget to see if I can get it a little better. I'm currently using federal bulk 100 round packs and I'm about 1-1.5 Moa at 100 now. Yeah it definitely does no shoot like my crescent customs built 308!

If you haven't already put a Geissele SSA-E trigger in it and your group sizes should improve greatly especially with good reloads.

Get some 69 and 77 FGMM to see how your rifle shoots instead of that bulk ammo. FGMM 69smk and Norma 5.56 77smk factory ammo shot the best out of my WOA 16" 1:7 barrel. I shot some IMI 77gr OTM ammo recently that was sub moa at 500yds and was making hits at 800yd on 12" plate. Widener's has it on sale right now.

Im now reloading 77smk's with 8208xbr and H4895 showing .50" or better accuracy at 100yds.

There is nothing wrong with the Recon mount if it is tight. You can run the height as low as you want if the bell doesn't touch the hand guard. Now let me ask you a question.... How in the hell do you shoot that rifle with the scope so far back??

I do need to move them I'll post an updated pic when I get my set of rings in. I used my buddies rings just to try it out. But I agree it does need to move forward some and I will move it once I get my set in. I've used the Adm recon before and had great luck on 1" tubes but for some reason this one was all over the place. Changed the mount to fixed rings and it fixed it.
