Help with Comms

I'm looking for some sort of headgear that will allow me and my son to talk to one another out on the range. When shooting my AR50 we are yelling at each other to see if he is ready because he dosn't like to be close to it when I'm shooting. Even with muffs the blast is a bit much for him. I've seen the taccom 2 's but $600 bucks is hard to take being how I'll have to buy 2. I have 2 Motarols t6500's, is there a way I can hook up the walkies to some other earmuffs and have 2way comms? Any other suggestion would be great as well.

I'd try some of the electronic earmuffs such as the Howard Leight Impact Sport, which go for about $55-60. Or on the other end of the spectrum, MSA/Sordin Supreme Pro's which go for about $280. Combined with a set of earplugs, it should give pretty good protection from the .50 blast and the mics will amplify your voices and should allow you to still talk to each other.

Also, standing directly behind you should keep him out of the blast from the muzzle brake if that is part of the problem. I'm sure you could hook up comms to a set of earmuffs, (I've used the military MSA/Sordin and Bose headsets with comms) but I'll leave that to someone with more experience than me.

I second the Howard Leights. I bought a pair at Midway not too long ago on sale and it's a purchase that I became ecstatic to have made. They are a very nice set of muffs. With a .50, for sure you're going to need to double up to be on the safe side of noise reduction.
