Help with hearing loss and tinnitus

I have had tinnitus for so long I just got to the point where I tune it out no pun intended. There are times when it gets louder for whatever reason and that is when I notice it. Don't hear worth a shit when there is a lot of background noise or when my wife is pissed with the latter being more attributable to my passive/aggressive nature. Funny thing when hunting I seem to hear everything.
The last part is what I find weird like I said same for me. I think it’s a issue with certain frequencies or something.

Pretty fucking groovy. I would have liked to seen Grace Slick sing Somebody to Love while tripping her ass off.
I saw Grace Slick at Newport Jazz Festival, she was hanging out having a smoke before they went on stage.
This broke ass looking bum VERY politely asked her "Excuse me miss, do you happen to have an extra smoke?"
She said "No, I don't" and gave him a nasty sneer.
He then said "Would you mind if I got the short from that one then?"
She then said "Fuck you, get out of my space" and proceeded to grind the smoke into the ground to assure he indeed, got no short.
I spoke up and said "watch this you bitch" and gave the guy a smoke and made sure to keep eye contact with her while I lit it for him.

Fuck that 'Ho' trash bitch.
She was/is a total ego trippin low life.

Marty Balin was a much better singer anyway.

I met Marty, Paul Kantner and Jack Cassady at a small club here, when they toured as KBC. Paul Kantner was a really intense guy.

I have it from 20+ years of international air travel.
I can control some of it when it starts getting loud with aversion therapy techniques.
Doctors are saying that the noise is coming from the brain that something has changed. All the treatments they have tried on the ears lead to no results and the cause is still unknown. Wonder if its a side effect of masterbation , thats the only activity that has be constant since I can remember. Wife doesn't have ringing in her ears and I've been pulling on them since I can remember.

The tinnitus comes rom the little cilia in the ear getting damaged so they are 'firing' all the time.

Dude, she was worth millions at that time.
She could have politely said I'd rather not or some such, she intentionally was a nasty bitch.
Fuck'n a right I had to do something to show her what manners were and it didn't bother me in the least to rub it in her face a bit.

A bum is a person.
Sure you can refuse them something, but there is no reason to be intentionally mean to another person unless the situation requires it.
At that time a cigarette was worth maybe a nickle, I don't think it would have hurt her pocket that hard.

They claim people are driven to suicide by it, from my experience they must be pretty weak people in general. I only notice mine when it ramps up or it’s dead quiet. Even a fan drowns it out enough I can ignore it.
I think it was Van Gogh, who cut off his own ear, trying to stop the ringing.

I’m trying not to be a dick. You need to disclose who you are. Maybe I’ll be impressed if I know

I agree with the weak part but that is just me. As your hearing gets worse the tinnitus gets worse.

My problem: Pass the hearing test every time. Still have the ringing, so they did an additional test...yep tinnitus.

Even worse parts is I guess I've trained myself to hear even with the tinnitus. I've made my wife turn off the TV or stop talking....I'm like can't you hear that noise?? It was the sink faucet dripping. LOL Sure high end HZ frequencies are lost...but damn it if I can't pick up low HZ "bumping". Think of like a car door closing...I hear things all the time.
I'm the same way. At night, I swear I can feel a vehicle idling from blocks away. How can one be both deaf and have bionic hearing???

Really low pitch sounds, while often not hearable, can be felt, often in the solar plexus.

I have an organ recording that goes to 16 hz. You can feel it but only sort of hear it. Odd sensation.

Different frequency ranges. For example my tinnitus is all high pitched/higher frequency range perception which is where my most noticeable hearing loss is. My hearing is still good in the lower frequency ranges.

There is a lot of interesting information and resources. https://www.ata.org/understanding-facts

Oh I know. I'm sitting in a quiet house, listening to the eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, I mean quiet breathing of 2 dogs sleeping on the other side of the room.

I hear crickets and circadas and other insects, along with a steady high pitch tone. Music, at anything other than low volume really starts it up. I used to enjoy playing guitar, but not so much, anymore. Sleeping with earplugs seems to help, even though I can still hear the tinnitus sounds, they seem to quiet down, considerably, soon after putting in the earplugs.

There's no way I can sleep with earplugs. Using noise canceling headphones is even worse unless there is music or sounds (music/movies). I will always prefer to have some sort of background noise over pure silence. There's a few hours of the whole "meditation" type music/sounds on my iTunes....LOL

You guys are looking at this all wrong. I used to work with a bunch of asshole 20 somethings who treated me like crap. Kids these days have a 'silent' ringtone that they can hear but older people can't (you tend to loose range as you get older). Its also annoying as fuck (from what I understdand). I put the sound on a loop at the lunch table and they would be going nuts "Do you hear that? What is that noise" and I ate in peace with just a hint of a smile on my face.

IIRC its the super high range

Alcohol, lack of sleep, air travel, and wearing earplugs for long stints cause my tinnitus to get really loud. I don't really notice it day to day unless it is really quiet, and I don't have trouble sleeping. But, it is always there. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

There was a company that was developing an area denial system to keep teens from loitering in places they were not wanted- like hotel/appt lobbies. A really high pitched tone that only the young could hear. I don't know what happened to it, and can't find it. Hopefully, it sounds like the whine in my ears...

Ironically I was at a big conference and had a lot of trouble hearing in crowds (I also have mild tinnitus that I can usually ignore), I'm not at the point where I need a hearing aid, but i did a quick test and did show up I'm at about 85% normal. Getting old sucks. I need a sticker that says "SPEAK LOUD"

OTOH: Sorry Honey gotta protect my hearing: Need more cans!!!

Just got my hearing aids a month ago.... high frequency loss drove me crazy in bars and restaurants and meetings, hearing low pitched background noise and not the people talking. fricking tinnitus sucks, I'm hoping the hearing aids start to help in another few months....

20 years ago I started noticing a ringing in my ears.. I didnt think much about it at the time, thinking it was just might be normal.
As the next 5 -10 years went by, the high pitched, irritating noise increased in volume, and duration.

I went to a local specialist, but he could help.

But, After my 1st visit to my divorce Lawyer, I noticed an instant decrease in both tone, volume, and frequency. 18 months after my " 1st treatment" The ringing, high pitched, distracting noise was gone!!!

Its been 10 years of newly found peace, and quiet!

Anyone else’s hearing come and go? I have tinnitus but I’m used to it if it’s not dead quiet, but sometimes my hearing will get worse in an ear like I have an ear plug in and the ringing gets really loud for a while the goes back to “normal”.

Also some days I have this pressure sort of feeling deep in my ear and everything is slightly muffled but sounds are “painful” for lack of a better word. Like I said before both of my ear drums popped 10-12 years ago. Also If I blow my nose really hard instead of air building up in my middle ear it blows straight out. Ive failed hearing tests for jobs with flying colors, I walk out and they just shake their head at me lol.

I can’t hear people if I’m not facing them and I read lips if there’s a lot of background noise, but if I’m walking through the woods and a squirrel or bird is moving around my eyes go straight to it in thick brush I don’t have to search around it’s weird. People for whatever reason are real hard to hear.

believe me when I say take care of your hearing. Years of loud tools, guns, race cars, and concerts so loud your hearing was messed up for 2-3 days after took there toll. Busting my eardrums didn’t help, but wear earplugs.

I don't have tinnitus normally, but every once in awhile I go deaf in one ear for a minute or so and just hear ringing.

Working construction, 1000 watt truck stereo, shooting, etc.
I have noticed it got much more infrequent after purchasing cans and a newer truck with much less wind noise and lower stereo volume.

My wife looks at me like I'm dumb a lot. I won't hear her screaming across the house about something, but I'll hear the most stupid things that don't matter.

My ENT let me know that loud noise events can be helped if the treatment starts within 8 weeks of the event. I had an event w a 338 WM and the treatment recovered about 30% of the loss.

Have severe Tinnitus for years. Trying to sleep at night was terrible. Found a youtube app. 10 hrs of white noise. Plug two speakers each side of the bed to my android. kinda cancels the internal ringing. No problem getting to sleep.
I run fans. When I was in Iraq I would put my headphones in and have my playlist going.

You can find websites that will generate white noise based on your tinnitus frequency. I think it plays every frequency except the one your tinnitus rings. Supposed to make ringing disappear while playing.

I do have tinnitus that seemed to have started many years ago after a bout of flu or some such virus. Never went away.
USAF flight line, riding Harleys with straight pipes, competition skeet, and now high powered rifles. Ears never stood a chance.

Like most, its high end loss that makes it hard to distinguish what was said...I hear the noise, just often can't parse the consonant sounds that make words understandable.

I have hearing aids, I have had insta-mold plugs for clay target shooting for a decades, Walker Quad muffs for rifles, and Shot Hunt for upland bird (mostly GA quail)....but, I'm about to leap off the cliff and spend some serious money on some ESP electronic hearing protection with full molded shell. Yeah, lots of $$ but I'm sick of not being able to hear when I want and I have been looking at them for years. Its time now, I think.

The Shot Hunt are just ok...they do help quite a bit and fast attenuate on gunfire, but they always feel like they are going to fall out of my ears out in the field as they are held in with those little compression foam plugs. That's ok for my iPhone head ear buds but not for me out in the field.

However, at almost 70 (damn, that's coming up fast) I'm sort of ok with not hearing people....when I don't want to hear it! haha

Cheers

might be an answer for you or this
1666906887558.png

either might strike you strange and they are but so is looking for hearing problems actual medical problems in an open chat I do wish you the best of luck as hearing is pretty darn important when crossing the street , or walking around in the park or even hearing the ding of your shot on steel that would suck not to hear that .

I too have tinnitus and some hearing loss in a range, but damn I absolutely cannot stand for loud music, compressed air, road noise or loud talking to occur. It literally hurts. On bad days it can be normal talking and it makes me want to deck every person that says a single word. Its strange how it plays out. Some days just wearing ear plugs is the best option.
