Help with stuck cartridge....

I've been resizing necks and bumping shoulders without resizing the cases. Had some cartridges sticking so intended to find out where the cases needed resizing. Though it would be a good idea to paint a cartridge and see where the paint was scrathced off. Apparently a BAD idea. Cartridge is now solidly jammed (with the bolt almost all the way open). I can't open it.

Looking for fix ideas or thoughts??! Thanks much in advance!!

Re: Help with stuck cartridge....

Wooden Dowel down the muzzle with a light tap might work.

Was the paint dry before you chambered it? What type of paint and how thick of a coat did you put on the brass?

Re: Help with stuck cartridge....

thanks for the consideration. It was spray paint, plenty to cover it and I let the "quick dry" paint dry for 2 days.

Don't think a wooden dowell is likely to work (?) as the bolt is stuck. Almost all the wy in the up position, but probably not 100% up.

thanks again.

Re: Help with stuck cartridge....

I always carry a rubber mallet to "unstick" any .50 BMG rounds that might want to sit a bit tight in the chamber as a result of a bunch of crap ammo floating around. I just use the mallet to open the bolt up and then I use a rod or dowl to push out the cartirdge or at least that is what I would do if I was in your shoes.
I say use this at your own risk as my Serbu was built like a tank and I have never had to use it on my Serbu but I have used it on a Barret before.

Re: Help with stuck cartridge....

If the bolt is stuck in the locked position use the rubber mallet to rotate it to the open position. Then use the dowel. If there is a live round in there DO NOT do any of this, until the round is fired.

Re: Help with stuck cartridge....

So, are we talking a fired case or a live round that us stuck?

I think the spray paint would stick the case no matter how thin of coat & regardless of how long it dried.

Just throwing this out there as we are talking a painted stuck case/action... would it seem logical to pour a decent amount of good gun/penetrating oil down the barrel to try to loosen up the binded mess?? I would definitely remove the barreled action from the stock first.
