recently won a 300wby mag in a gun raffle and had no earthly use for it. traded it for a henry lever action with an octagon bsrrel. just wanted to say its a damn nice little gun and a blast to shoot

Did you get the Golden Boy or the Frontier model? The wife and I have the Frontier and use it for Cowboy Action Shooting side matches and rimfire shoots. It is a hoot and we like the drop on the stock better than that of the Golden Boy (took us both too long to find the sights on the GB...not good in timed competition). I also keep it sitting next to the door with some subsonic ammo in the mag for any unwelcome stray/feral cats or skunks that might decide to traipse across my property.
Oh, make sure you get a bore snake for that puppy. I find I only need to clean about every 750 rounds and one pass with a snake does the trick. I was surprised at how shiny the bore on mine is- it fouls slowly and cleans up really good.
