Hey 40Xers what are your barrel lengths

Find some new ammo... that gun will do 10 round groups under an inch at 100 and should be one small hole at 50 yards.

Mine is 28" as well. I could be WAY off, but I have read that the 28" 40XB has some restriction at the end of the barrel so cutting it would change the barrel. Again... could be myth, but why risk it?!

Don't cut it....see how it shoots with different types of ammo first especially the good stuff. I cut mine and it never has shot the same afterwards. Rico is right there is a constriction in the muzzle of a 28" barrel that you will be removing if you shorten your barrel at the muzzle. I am thinking of putting the constriction back into the barrel after I come back from overseas and acquire a lathe to do the work.

Thats better... mine doesn't care for the Wolf. It likes Eley and shoots Match (Black box EPS) the best so far.

Same here. I got it last year from CMP and was planning on cutting it switching stock etc. to match my LTR. When it arrived it looked too good to mess with. Then I shot it. If someone cuts it down they better cut me first...

This is why I got a second 40X from the CMP and set it up in original condition (Redfield sights, hand stop). But I do not regret cutting and threading my first 40X. I don't believe that hoo-doo about the mystical "wasp waist" in the bore. It seems to me that such a thing would be impractical to machine in mass-production, and would probably prove to have a deleterious effect on accuracy if it really existed. Mine shoots great cut down with junk Remington green box sub-sonic 22LR. Maybe people who regret cutting got a bad crown, who knows?

24 Inch Lilja here.

Last week I put 60 rounds into about 3/8 - 1/2 at 50 meters prone. It scored 590 something out of 600 on a International Smallbore Prone target.

Re: Hey 40Xers what are your barrel lengths

Can someone chime in and say for sure about the restriction. Does that go for all 40x 22lr's. The standard barrels and so on. I have one coming soon that has the standard barrel 26.5 inch and just under .8 at the muzzle.

I am so exited to get it and have wanted one for some time now. I was wanting to cut it back to about 22" and suppress it on an AICS for practice (but still keep the wooden stock for some squirrel control : ). But I certainly do no want to ruin it's accuracy.

Thanks,

JamieD

Re: Hey 40Xers what are your barrel lengths

Slug the bore to find out if the muzzle is tight.
Mine had so much wear at the muzzle from rod wear, so slugged it and found that I could cut it 2" and have a good choke at the crown, will also cut 2" at the chamber (too much rod wear there.) Will end up with a 24" as new barrel.

Re: Hey 40Xers what are your barrel lengths

I'm having one rebarreled to 20". The 26.5 standard barrel would only shoot the $$$ stuff. Mine did not seem to have the tight muzzle.
I have a Rem 540 that has been rebarreled with a Douglas tube and you can feel the tight Muzzle when cleaning it.
